Here are two bridge pickups that are competitive with each other: Seymour Duncan Hot Rails VS. Dimarzio Super Distortion S™. Does anyone have any opinion on which is better, or are they pretty much the same?

I won't list the specs because they are not avail for both but here is the application of both pickups:
High output single-coil-size "rails" humbucker. Great for classic rock, garage, punk, heavy rock, thrash, classic metal and nu-metal.

Super Distortions suck IMO either in Humbucker or Coil size. They sound fizzy and undefined, they would only cover punk, garage and grunge well.

The hotrails are the way to go if you need a coilsized humbucker, good for everything from classic rock to metal but not extreme metal like thrash, death, black and nu metal

Alot lies in the amp... I highly doubt that any pickup of Dimarzio or Duncan suck.

The Superdistortion doesn't suck IMO smile.gif It's a very fine pickup and it's become a classic for a reason. Just roll off on the volume to clean up a bit if you think it's too sharp sounding. Suits very well in my mahogany LP I think.

But I'm generally doubtful about humbuckers in single coil format. It's not the same as the real humbucker, far from it. Expect a thinner and weaker sould compared to the real deal.

I don't think it matters much which one you choose between the two. To be honest, there are real cheap "ebay" pickups out there that sound like a million bucks and for the investment of 1/3 of the cost for a Dimarzio or a SD it's big bang for the buck.

Check out Tonerider, might surprise you.

Both are good mate, you won't make a mistake choosing either one of them. I would say in general that with Dimarzio you can expect a bit more agressive sound and more classic sound with SD.

I have a Dimarzio Super Distortion in my Strat. (Humbucker)

It took some getting used to. I usually play with the volume on 10 all the time. But with that pickup you just cant.

You have to roll it back or it is a bit fizzy.

So do find rolling the volume back on the Dimarzio Super Distortion would be the equivalent of a Dimarzio pickup with a little less output like the Dimarzio Fast track 2 pickup? The tone guide as far as treble, bass and mid is the same for both pickups.

i had a super distortion in my ibanez rg350 a couple of years ago....i loved the pick up, it was never "fuzzy" and it always was articulate...

the reason why i got it was because at the time, my guitar hero was adrian smith from iron maiden, and he had used the "super distortion + PAF pro" combo, and i just had to have it....i just took a shot in the dark with that one...

lucky for me, thats a very popular, toneful combo, and i didnt even know it lol...

i never liked SD, but thats just me
