I think you should have a decent audiocard first, or you could try a POD : http://bx.line6.com/podstudioux1/

You could try Audacity. It's free and works well. I've never tried the Mac version, but the Windows version is good.

Actually, you can plug your guitar directly to the sound in jack on your Mac and record with Garage Band.

If it helps Mari: You need to set the Lambda as your primary/main audio interface. On a Mac this should be (I think- sorry no Mac here): Hard drive > Applications > Utilities > Audio/MIDI Setup and select ‘Lexicon Lambda In/Out’ for the Default Input, Default Output and System Output settings. If it isn't there or shows an error then download the latest driver from Lexicon and install that. -------------------- Regarding Audacity FWIW I train people on Audacity and work with the software development team- it's a nice piece of open source, free software. It is primarily meant for audio/wave file editing rather than recording/mixing etc. Its recording facilities are limited but may be enough for home use. If it isn't sufficient then you may need to look at Mac versions of Reaper, Cubase, ProTools, DP, Logic. Logic and ProTools are seen by many as geared towards the more semi-pro/pro end of recording and mixing software for Mac. This isn't to suggest that Reaper/Cubase/DP and so on aren't but their user bases on Macs is arguably not as strong. (You can also include Nuendo but unless you are really doing a lot of high end multi media and/or surround sound work then it is an expensive solution. Also arguably your Lambda, although a good interface, is not sufficient to justify the cost of Nuendo and full surround sound monitoring, K metering, Dolby pro and so on.) Logic is now part of the Apple stable and so is becoming more 'integrated' in to Apple OS design. Pro Tools (or P/T) is still a big competitor to Logic though not least because many studios have a heavy investment in HD hardware and software platforms. HD is an expensive - and arguably outdated - hardware solution.
