These new lessons are good, but i think we kinda have enough of this progressive type metal stuff and need alot more aggressive licks. Its good to have what we have now but its also important to have a bit of variety to if you know what i mean.

Anyone else agree?

I agree too. I think what he means is that a lot of the stuff on here is geared torwards players who play certain types of music. For example, we've got all the 101 videos, which are good for everyone, but a lot of the newer stuff in the solo section is geared torwards the "Progressive Metal" type of music. By "plain agressive licks" I think he means just some sort of lick that can be applied to all styles of playing maybe? These new lessons can be cool, but I would also like to see some variety with some other styles of guitar playing. ( A.K.A Another Slash lesson? )

Anyone Else?

I like the new lessons but I hate the genre.

I'm more of a classic rock and blues player so I don't learn the majority of the lessons here note for note. Instead, I focus on the technique behind the lessons, take that to a metronome, then come back in a few weeks and try to play over the backing track.

Almost everything I learn here isn't used in the style of music I like, but practicing sweeping and speed picking, for example, has given me great control over the instrument. Compared to some of the speed picking runs I've been practicing, "Freebird" is getting easier and easier to play just because I can control unwanted string noise and play at a faster tempo now.

So I'm all for the new lessons because they're technically hard to play. I don't like the genre but the practice is what counts. It's easier for me to find the sheet music for old rock songs on the internet than it is to find good guitar lessons.

(of coarse, if we ever have lessons in the style of Cream, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, or Pink Floyd that would be awesome )

I totally agree - you can learn from any lesson, and the lessons here are of universally exceptional quality - the effects of learning any of them will improve your technique all over, and in the end it is up to you to figure out what your style is an play it. The more diverse elements you learn, the greater the chance you have of coming up with something unique.

While I'd like to see some lessons in some more varied genres, I think it is way more important that our exceptional instructors continue to produce high quality lessons in styles that THEY are passionate about, that way we will get the best possible lessons.

Of course, I'd be very happy if we got a new blues or Jazz instructor tomorrow - I think that is a better answer than asking the guys to work on stuff that is not so interesting to them. But whether or not that happens, I am getting so much out of this site that it isn't a problem for me.

Good reply Andrew.. I totaly agree with what you said. Our Instructors are great and I love learning these lessons, but I must agree with some jazz and blues lessons..

If they'd let me I'd gladly become an instructor and teach people how to suck on the guitar suck at playing the guitar.

Gabriel told me he has some bluesy lesson coming up!

I have also had discussion with guitarist named David who has a very special rock sound/style - let's hope we will make it to a lesson...

I do agree we need more styles - but it all goes down to what instructors we can find!

Your already great at the kind of lessons im talking about kris!, remember the speedpicking 3 lesson. Thats the kind of licks im talking about, that was by far my most favorite lesson and from that lesson iv made many new speedpicking licks, but would u be able to teach sum different kinds of aggressive licks
