And here it is!!

Coffeeman, I'm really sorry for not waiting for you any longer
but we already missed the deadline almost for a week,
there'll be more collab tho so don't worry.

Each take was very individual and I enjoyed
going through all this, maybe few comments might be too hard
but it's all in best interest for you guys,
I hope you won't be mad at me after all.

That is was just great, I have not much to add
knowing that you're still pretty young!
Very mature thinking and playing,
smooth phrasing, smart use of stacatto notes,

First 4 bars of your take were something coolest
I've heard in a while, so relaxed and chill
and just slightly "of beat" right as it should!!
To be honest, I was expecting you to keep going
in similar direction but you have chosen
the path of rock shred.
Anyhow, there were many nice ideas
but small problem with rest of the take is timing,
it's not as much tight as it should be,
specially if you play faster shreddy chops.
Pay more attention to that in the future,
good effort and thanks for participating!

Ok, first of all I must say few things about your tone,
it was waaay too much in midds and treble
so I had to do some cuts,
please think of that next time when you record something,
listen it along with backing and hear if it
jumps too much out of the picture.
Now about playing, I can tell that you had many things
to show but you under pressure of technique,
your chops were all around but nothing to catch on imo
and mostly cause of timing you were struggling with.
Listen to your take after you record it,
does it flow, does it have constant move,
can someone remember a piece of it after one listen etc?
Those are some of the question you can ask
yourself always and questions you'll come up with
will help you A LOT!

Very rocky playing with few nicely placed
pinch harmonics which a liked a lot.
Your timing was also well guided with 16th notes
as top speed which was more then enough.
But there was a problem in last couple of bars,
it modulates into Cm key but somehow
you stayed with Bm pentatonic, what happened?

I guess this take was recorded in London
but you never know with Adam,
he's a travel agent so it might have been recorded
on top of the Great Wall as well!!!
So, tons of Gilmourish licks here which made my day,
I specially liked way the you ended most of them
with those "lost" bends at the end of licks, very cool!
Cm part was a bit over pushed, like a tapping assault!!
But you broke a recorded when you recorded
this take in like 2 mins so you're excused this time.




Crazyfret

You stayed low and away from exibitions all the time
which was VERY appreciated,
pretty different from the rest of the takes, cudos!!
Now, intonation was a bit too sharp, maybe you were
fretting too hard or it was just tuned slightly up, not sure.
All in all it was very descent playing without
pushing yourself over the limits with no reason,
I was only missing more vibrato here,
that would be real score, good work!




Berko

I can tell that you played with lot of confidence!
I specially liked part over E chord with
those repetitive rhythmic sequences, well placed.
But something weird happened over G7 chord,
I would really have to listen very closely to
figure out theoretical side of those licks
since you were "out" pretty much,
and same happened at the end of section over Cm.
Still, it was too "out" but only in my opinion,
it's easy to hear that you play each note
with courage and attitude which is good,
a bit more work on theory and you'll be there, god job Berko!





Iluha

Too much reverb, dial it down next time,
there is really no need for this much of reverb.
Playing was nice tho, timing pretty steady
which is very important when you play over shuffle feel backing.
Considering your technical level I guess
you could have done more work on constructing whole solo,
make more sense out if it, put a road map for it.
This was not bad at all but I'm sure that
you can give more "music" into your playing,
keep it up, it's going great!





Velvet Roger

This was very relaxed take
with some cool licks including
repetition in different octaves trick
which gave more color to whole take.
Last few bars with tapping were also
nicely played and you ended right on time.
There are some problems regarding bends
and timing on 3nps patterns
but it's not impossible to fix tho!

Another creamy tone and nice phrasing!
Everything was just up to my taste
except of couple of licks.
You are at descent technical level with
lot of sense for music,
just pay more attention on how you end
each "sentence" or line that you play.
It would be shame to start with something like
"darling, you mean everything in the world to..."
and end with " who's for soda?",
I'm sure you know what I mean, good work tho!

Thanks for you comments Muris I know I'm not the most extravagant guitarist but thats me . I'll keep working on the vibrato for sure tho.

I'll look forward to the next collab but I'm off skiing soon so it will be a couple of weeks.

I'm glad you noticed the intonation is out I thought it was me a first. I did check before recording the tuning, (I assume it was standard), but I have notice it on my lick building collab with David. I might be wrong but was wondering if the action is prob a little too low and the sting is catching a fret and creating a harmonic? I seems to be the top 3 strings I'm having problems with.

Sorry for the rushed state of my recording for this collab, however it shows you quite well my abilities for improvised takes and where my playing is weak. It could help in the MTP especially.

One thing I really realised from a previous collab with Pedja, is that I play with a lot of "spaces" between licks, which I do like but I would like to be able to make a progress structured improvisation as well. Just to be able to spice up my playing

Great backing track though, great takes everyone too!

but somehow forgot to mention that,
taking a breath between licks is good thing most of the time.

Muris my timing is pretty pathetic... I try to listen for the beat but I always get lost. I'm pretty sure I know the answer to my question already but I'll ask you the master anyways... What do you suggest for getting the shreddy lines tighter?

I think it's a matter of trying to play something that I haven't fully mastered yet perhaps... I need to just stop trying to go fast perhaps and just throw in an occasional shred line here or there... I always feel compelled to play fast I don't know why

I'm confused.. I agree that I put too much reverb, but I think that if my solo has a high point is it's structure, it was preety much planned out, so I don't understand what do you mean I could put more "music" in it?

More melodic approach is what I actually meant.



I believe that's the thing.
Try to memorize some licks and patterns
and then apply them to your playing.
It's not just notes and fingering but timing of each lick as well.
Think of 8ths , triplets etc while practicing and playing,
listen to the groove and beat, it'll come to you with time.

What? my take was very rythm based, and the timing was preety much spot on except for some sloppy parts... i ruled out some 8th,triplets, quadrets, and other type licks because they just didn't sound right to me, what I used in my take is what I felt was most fitting..

Thanks so much Muris for the effort and this insane backing! At first a had real trouble to do anything decent over this funky wah-spiced rhythm! About the theory stuff: I very strictly wanted to stick to the B minor scale as well as the b minor pentatonic. So i didn't really pay attention to the separate chords and what I think happened was that i landed on notes that were too strongly in B minor which ended up sounding "out" (playing it over the G7). I have no experience with fusion and even though I heard it was out, i thought it would do well to the fusion-feeling but it seems i screwed it up a bit hehe

This was a great opportunity, I hope I'll have it next time as well to participate in your collabs!

I know that this take wasn´t great. I had not much time to do it and I was really exhausted from the work I had to do. Thanks for mentioning the tone issue, I didn´t hear it. I have not enough experience with tone, so this is an area that I should develop.

Gah, I sounded a bit like an ass on my post, sorry, I was kind of pissed off at some things...

Thanks for the comment man, I think you'r right I should have tried doing something more melodic, I was too cought up in getting it to sound tight with the rythm that I neglected the melodic side of the composition..

On the other hand, I think this is probably my most techniquly advanced collab take(it isn't really all that advanced, but for stuff I ussually play, it is =p), so hopefully this have opend a door iv'e been trying to open for a long time to incorporate more advanced techniques into my solo's.

I love listening to these collabs and reading the comments as well. From listening, I get so many cool ideas from the cool stuff that other players do, and then reading the critique reminds me of stuff that I can be working on too from the technical, theoretical, and "musical" sides.

Thanks everyone for your cool takes and Muris for the well thought out comments. Like I mentioned, even though I didn't participate in this one, I learned a ton of new things.
