The whole thing is quite sad. He really did have it all. Yet it looks like he killed himself just after having a great concert. Just goes to show folks are struggling with crap we can't see. From the outside, it looked like he had everything. Great musical gifts, part of the very fabric of Musical History itself, one of the most important scenes in recent memory, four octave range, loving wife and children (last I heard) and on tour to boot. Yet still. Died alone in a hotel room from what I've read. Very sad. The good news is, his music will outlive him and probably outlive us all.

That said. I'm tired of losing people. It seems this year alone we have lost a great many gifted musicians and I think Death needs to just take a Holiday for a while. That's quite enough people for a while.

Yes, his wife says she believes it may have to do with the anxiety medication he was taking. I tend to believe that he was suffering with crippling depression (like Robin Williams) and that is the catalyst of his anxiety. Being on stage he plays a role outside of his real persona - so he's wearing a stage mask in essence. My son is a little bit the same way; in general he is soft spoken and shy but put him on stage and he is a totally different person, in command of what he is doing (until people applause then you see that shy, almost self deprecating smile).

Very sad for his family and I feel terrible for what he must have been going through mentally. To kill oneself is to have given up on the idea that the pain is going to go away and that pain is too great to continue to bear life.

Some more tributes. The first one, Candlebox, is especially poignant for a couple of reasons. First, Chris Cornell wrote Say Hello 2 Heaven to honor the legacy of Andy Wood and the Candlebox song, Far Behind, is also a tribute to Andy Wood. Second, with the passing of Andy, Layne, Kurt, and now Chris, you could make the case that Kevin Martin of Candlebox is the last of that group of Seattle-based singers who achieved mainstream popularity left alive.
