Are you kidding? I'm a HUGE Rush fan, and Alex Lifeson fan. My friends & I (Bassist/Drummer) just played together the other day, and we all learned just about the entire first side of Hemispheres - with Taurus Moog Pedals! Had a blast! We did it when we were kids and I felt like a kid again (Hemispheres was 1978). Our Bassist is a complete Rush freak. (me too, I think)
Alex is definitely an original when it comes to chords - mainly because he had to find a way to fill up space and act as a base to offset Geddy's melodic runs and Neil's intricate accents. He admits himself Rush has turned him into a better rythme player than a lead player, although he's no slouch when he solos. I've learned sooo much learning Alex's stuff (mostly by ear).
Snakes & Arrowes is really, really great. It takes a while to really appreciate most songs that Rush puts out. The 20th time you hear it is completely different than the first time, because so much goes over your head at first, theres so much there.
ANyway...take care.
