so my late night sessions are gettin on my girls nerves. although she is super cool with me playing for hours. i cant seem to get the volume at a level we both can live with at night. so whats a good device i can use with headphones and as long as im getting new gear it would be nice if that new peice of gear can be thrown in a backpack so i can take it on trips. looked at the pod 2.0, can i record with that thing by connecting to a laptop. or you have other suggestion other than the pod

Korg Pandora might be the answer here! It works on batteries and the quality of the tones is great. The seem to have the mini version out : http://www.korg.com/pandoramini

I think, you can look at POD HD Desktop too: http://line6.com/podhd/desktop/index.html

I had the same problem and finally found an app for my retired iPhone 3GS called JamUp. It emulates lots of amps an effects really well. I'm picky about my tube screamer and this app does the closest justice to it that I've ever heard as far as emulation goes. You can also load up iPod songs or downloaded backing tracks and play to them anywhere. The app is endorsed by a few famous guitarists. The base app is a free install and has enough cool effects to get you started. I believe it also has a feature to slow down your favorite tracks so you can learn licks from them.

For clarification, the backing tracks are whatever you would pull down and load into your iPod yourself, backing tracks are not a feature of the app itself, that's just something that I like to do with it.

Good luck hunting. Take care.

Mark

You already received the best suggestions for this. My brother has Pandora mini and it's really good because you also have metronome and drum loops for practice. You can also connect a mp3 to play over backing tracks. Using Iphone as Mroberts said is also a good option because you also have metronome, drum loops and backings.

Checked out the korg, exactly what I'm looking for, not to expensive either.
I was curious bout the pod hd the, bean looking one. I hear some kick ass recodings coming from pods and I can't seemto get a good sound from what I'm currently using, probably due to inexperience in recording. The pod just seems a lot more user friendly. When I checked out specs on the pod he i didn't see a auxiliary in to plug in a iPod. Is there one? Also didn't say anything about standalone use that I want for late nights and away from my computer and trips. I'm only interested in the pod hd because if I can get a device to use like the korg pandora and get great recording sound I'm gonna go with pod hd if not I'm just gonna stick with the way I record now and get the korg.

Sorry if my grammar makes this hard to read typing on my cell again.

Out of what I know, the POD devices are not standalone, so I guess that leads to one conclusion: Korg Pandora smile.gif

I have a Pandora and it's quite nice. It has some loops you can play along with. But...I haven't used it in a long time since almost any amp simulator on an iPhone sounds better. And with Amplitube on the iPhone I can play along to any backing track in my itunes library.

The big problem with something like a Pandora or an iPhone is there are no footswitches for selecting patches or turning effects on and off (or at least nothing I would consider practical yet). Even for practicing that can be a problem. That's where a Line6 Pod would be better. In other words something with a midi input so you can hook up footswitches to it, or something with built-in footswitches. There are a variety of Pod models, some have midi input, others don't. Some have aux audio input, others don't. Some have built-in footswitches, others don't. And yes, you can use a Pod standalone, away from the computer.
