GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Pickups?

Posted by: metaldan Feb 13 2012, 01:05 AM

I am building a custom guitar completely from scratch... so I am contemplating what pickups I should get. I've looked into Zhangbucker, WCR, and Lundgren. I've been a DiMarzio guy my whole life so I've tried that company out to death. Looking into more of a 'boutique' line I guess. Just wondering whats out there other than the big well known companies.
I play metal. Tuned to Eb. (I've got links in my siggy)

The guitar will be:
one piece Mahogany body with flamed maple top
Neck will be maple with a birds eye maple fingerboard
Floyd Rose trem
2 humbuckers

If anyone has any cool suggestions I am all ears biggrin.gif

BareKnuckle Nailbombs.

Anything Bareknuckle really. I just happen to personally favour the Nailbomb.

These pickups look very promising:

Then of course there is the one of the best pickups ever made, the Bill Lawrence L500XL. This was used by Dimebag Darrell.

Also, if you're willing to dish out the money, Joe Barden makes a very high fidelity pickup. I think one of the reasons why this pickup is not so well known is because of the price. It is very expensive. But from all the demos I've heard, it is a very, very clear pickup. If I had the money, this would be the pickup I would get.

Check out how well the Joe Barden can dish out the brutality through a 5150

I think for mahogany body usually used mahogany neck through the body
because it will improve sustain.
If you will choose maple neck you will loose a lot of mid frequencies and your highs will be very fizzy
Also your will loose all of your sustain and might be disappointed I am not trying to discourage you just giving an advice!
Mahogany body and maple neck is a very rare and unusual combination so be careful and consult with a guitar tech first!
For the pickups I would suggest you Suhr they are making an amazing pickups
