Have you ever played a 7 string guitar? What are the benefits? How did it feel compared to a 6 string guitar?
Hey guys,
I've played on an Ibanez K7 for about 5 years and it was really helpful to have low tunings and high notes easily accessible - I gave it up just because I was looking for a change in tone. Otherwise 7 strings are a very good choice if you need to play lead and low end rhythm on the same axe.
I only ever played one once in a guitar shop... however I do like the idea of having one in the future ! I imagine that you'd really have to alter the way you hit low E chords, as there's a big fat B string in the way !
I think Kris should provide one to all the instructors!
This is from the summer of last year. I have not played another one since, as of now. I played an 8 string, and boy! it was a monster! Definitely not going for that. 7 String is good enough for me.
I hope to get a 7 string one day. Very possibly shoot for one without a trem system so that I won't have to mess with it. I can just change the strings myself without worrying.
I own a 7 string. Personally, it's good for heavy riffage for obvious reasons, it makes it harder to have control of the neck since it's thicker, which is a good training for many techniques such as vibrato and bending. It's also great to be more fretboard aware, people tend to only know for sure the notes on the low E string, because it's the more common reference to the root notes in the chords. Having a lower string makes people be aware of other chords until they notice that, when they go back to a 6 string, at least they'll be aware of half of the strings
I recently joined a prog band playing with a 7 string and it's a very cool instrument. You need to pay attention while playing some chords on the lower strings, obviously
