Hi mate, great to see that you are working hard on this!
This is a very good analysis and it's exactly what I wanted you to do with this lesson. I'm very curious to hear what you'll record next based on the work that you are doing this weekend. This concept is very powerful. Enjoy and take your time to incorporate it. -------------------- My lessons

Hi Jim! Nice video!
There are some moments when your phrasing becomes very tasty and melodic. I think that there is still work to do in order to continue improving your major improvisation. There are some ideas that you could apply during the next practice sessions: - More use of silences. Let your phrasing breath by separating some of the phrases with silences. Listen to how guitarists like David Gilmour, Santana and Slash use this element. - Try to play more horizontally. Being able to see the triads on the same string and moving horizontally can make everything sound much more melodic. - Experiment more with the triad notes by bending to them, and also by sometimes avoiding them over the first two chords to then target it over the last chord. And while you continue practicing over this one, you can get into the minor triads and pentatonic. https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...xes-and-triads/ What do you think? -------------------- My lessons

I do feel like my vision of fretboard is better, still haven’t learned enough of it to be second nature. I’ll work on horizontal movements and try to hit more chord tones. I’m looking at other solo lessons here and it seems like many of the solo parts start or end on other tones of the chord beside it’s root… |

Hi Jim,
This is very interesting. I think that our guitar playing is an extension of our personalities, so what you say really makes sense to me. And that's why, playing guitar is not only a way of expression, it can also be a tool to work on our insecurities, fears and personalities. It's like meditation for me. -------------------- My lessons

Hi jim!
Very nice! I'm familiar with this backing track. I've jammed a lot over it. It reminds me to John Mayer. Your playing is very tasty. I like how you connect phrases, and how you use the call & response concept. It's also interesting to hear that you are much more comfortable with the use of silences. Your phrasing is breathing now. I'm not completely convinced of the tone that you are using. This is a very subjetive comment, but I would continue experimenting with settings to make it sound clearer. There are some low mid frecuencies that are not very enjoyable. (at least for my ears). Also, I think that using a cleaner tone could help you to get more dynamics. Have you ever heard this guitarist? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxStQFtYjyA -------------------- My lessons

Have you ever heard this guitarist? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxStQFtYjyA Gab thanks for the feedback! I am having a hard time with a clean tone and for now Im just going to write with the intention of a higher gain until I get a better VST. Ive used the Plini vst from Archetype and I was blown away how clean it sounded. Looking back It reminds me of Sean Angus Watson. Never heard of him but I do like his music. I listened to that whole album and it's rather sad/emotional but Im into that sort of music. His effort on guitar is great, it's just what the song needs. I have not been working on any Lessons at the moment and have been taking some time to play guitar and take in from the lessons and try to apply it in my natural state. Currently Im working on writing guitar solo's for some of my favorite POST MODERN Rock/metal songs that don't have guitar solos. Here is one that Im in the middle of https://www.reverbnation.com/jimseekford/so...-solo-section-1 What I'm working on is letting the song dictate the solo and trying to let my solos breathe a bit. It's harder when the music is fast paced and aggressive. Not sure how to use the call/responce tactic in this situation... Anyways Im still at it and will start the minor pent lesson soon... Cheers and happy new year man! |

I listen to this style of music a lot, mainly on weekend mornings. And yes, Plini's plugin is amazing for clean tones. I also like it for lead guitar. It's one of my favorite amp plugins ever. I don't recognize the band. You solo sounds like a natural part of the song. If you work a bit on the mix, I would believe that this solo is part of the original recording. There are just a few weak sections that need some work, the overall sounds very consistent. Good job! I would really like to encourage you to continue practicing this since it's a killer exercise for your creativity and arranging skills. -------------------- My lessons

I had a bit of a slow start but have already begun working on some newer songs that I like and adding guitar in them. I can definitely say that I feel much more comfortable playing improvisation and find that most any backing track I put on, I can play with it and although I may not know exactly the chord Im playing over, my natural senses have a better grasp where to land. This year I hope to work on creating my own licks and solos. There are so many licks that I have written over the years but don't know how to take them to the next level or what to do with them. I also feel that Chords and Progressions should be the next plan of attack. What do you think about that? I also recently wrote a guitar solo for Talk to a Friend by Rain City Drive. Here is the Solo Talk to a Friend by Rain City Drive Solo |

Hi Jim!
Happy New Year Gabriel! This is very cool to know. This is an infinite journey so you'll always find new things to learn and improve, but it's nice to know that you are now comfortable with your current improvisation level. Keep going! It's not necessary to always know the chord that it's sounding. It's an information that can help to make choices, mostly when our ear and/or mind are not inspired. Personally, when I'm practicing, I write down the progression and follow it, but when I'm playing I trust more on my instinct. However, all the formal practice obviously gives tools when you start to feel a bit lost. This year I hope to work on creating my own licks and solos. There are so many licks that I have written over the years but don't know how to take them to the next level or what to do with them. I also feel that Chords and Progressions should be the next plan of attack. What do you think about that? Great plans! Have you checked my Composition course? Maybe it's a good place to start with the basics. I also recently wrote a guitar solo for Talk to a Friend by Rain City Drive. Here is the Solo Talk to a Friend by Rain City Drive Solo It sounds EPIC! I think that the original song needs a solo as emotive as this one there. It works perfectly mate. You should share it with the band. Honestly it's killer. -------------------- My lessons
