It's been a day I've been dreading for sometime, but also anticipating with excitement: today I had my PhD viva.

It lasted about an hour and a half on top of my presentation and finished with the examiners telling me that they were happy to award me with my doctorate pending minor corrections to my thesis (typos and labels mainly).

To be honest I don't know how I'm feeling at the moment other than exhausted. This has been a huge chapter of my life and I've successfully made it through to the end. The sense of accomplishment is dawning on me but I think I'm still in shock. biggrin.gif

Congrats - short vivas are nearly always a good sign (or a very bad one but we won't go there) as it tends to indicate no real problems with the thesis.

From what I remember it'll take a few days for it to sink in so just relax and enjoy. It'll probably seems a bit strange not having to read stuff for your research but just because you want to smile.gif.

Thanks everyone biggrin.gif
The new guitar idea is inspired.. what better way to celebrate?

Tony: thanks for the encouragement. It is a strange and quite a mixed feeling, but I'm glad that it is usual
Keep_Rocking: (apt title) Thank you and my best wishes in your masters degree. What's your subject area?

Not Art's but my PhD was called 'Dying to Innovate' and was in Philosophy.

My D. Litt was 'Bataille: Death, Desire and the Loss of the Subject' (rough English translation as it was in Castellano) and again in philosophy.

"Development of Conducting Polymer Sensor Arrays For Wound Monitoring"

It was a very multidisciplinary subject with a focus on chemistry/physics and practical gas sensor characterisation for a project I was involved with - we designed and made an electronic nose that was capable of detecting bacteria present in superficial wounds and infections for quick, easy diagnosis and help in the administration of the correct antibiotics (an ongoing problem in medicine)
