GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Baratone Guitar

Has any one here tried out a baratone guitar. What are you thoughts on sound, I have my eye on one, I played it in the store but not though an amp. I would need to take it home and use it though my equipment see if I actualy like it. I just thought someone here may have one, or tried one and could give some insight.

One of the instructors here, http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Breaking-Down-Drop-A/, has a baratone guitar. I would also love his opinion!

I didn't know about these guitars - never saw one in the shop. I'm looking forward on hearing feedback in this thread.

Hey guys

I'm glad that you want to know more about these awesome axes

They are a very good option for low tunings (mine is tuned down to drop A and I intend to go as far as drop F, with heavier gauge strings of course)

If you play a lot of low tuned stuff and you need your guitar to growl very low, this is a good option, although you will not be able to play solo stuff too easily because of the heavy gauged strings - it all depends on what you want to play.

If you would try a drop A tuning, I recommend 0.13 - 0.68/0.70 gauge (this i my setup) you'll feel as if you're playing a bass guitar somewhat

If you want to play low tunings and also play solo stuff, I'd suggest that you go for a 7 string or even an 8 string.

I gave up my 7 stringed guitar (an Ibanez K7) because I played less and less solos in my bands.

If you want to hear a sample, I have a lesson here called "Drop A Breakdown" you could take a peak at and of course if you need to know something else, just ask

Yep, in the link of "Cosmin" of my post I actually used the link to the lesson: Breaking Down Drop A. I love listening to that piece, Cosmin. I wish you had a full song of it. From what you say Cosmin, sounds like I need a 7 string guitar. I like soloing a lot as well as riffing. And with a 7 string I could drop the last string and instantly be in Drop A.

I use Ernie Ball 11-54 right now, and I need to go lower. I'm thinking of just getting a 7 string set and leave the first string out. Then I could play in Drop B or Drop A. When I tune to Drop A with 54s it's insane. I don't like the result. 54s are for around Drop C at max in my opinion. They are perfect for my current favorite tuning, which is Drop Db. It is indeed a song a very complex and lengthy one actually which shall be ready (we're working on the vocal lines) and hopefully out by the end of this summer when my most beloved project will be ready for the stage

I use 11-54 on the PRS which is usually tuned to drop C and sometimes in drop C# (or Db if you wish,) so I agree with you that 11-54 is as good as drop C goes.
Lately I've seen this guy on youtube playing in drop F )) how's that for low?

Well, go for a 7 string if you want solos as well, but if you were to ask me, since I mostly enjoy a telecaster tone for solos, I wouldn't cope with a 7 stringed guitar anymore.

I am aiming at a PRS Johny Hiland Signature this summer, so I can put the pink guitar on the wall forever.

I must say I LOVE my Ibanez 7 String. I"d say get one! You can play solos, and have an extra low B that stays intonated without having to drop tune and let your strings frap. Some folks actually prefer the drop tuning on a 6 string and notice little or no string frap. I always found it frappy. So I'd say get a 7.

I love my 7 so much, now I want an 8
