Right, my guitar disciples... are you brave enough to stand before me and accept your next Task ? ph34r.gif

Task 8: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/rhythm-gu...ani-style-rock/

You have until next Thursday 22nd March to record your versions

We're still focusing on rhythm but this weeks has more of a lead feel rather than riffs.. still, the main focus is on timing so make sure you do the best you can to keep in the groove and not rush ahead or lag behind !

I know you guys can do it, you've been consistently great so keep making me proud ! cool.gif

Ok you won't have to. This is both Very Cool and fun to Play. Is this good enough for REC? I don't really want to walk down the mountain to the post box if it's not. I could use the time better to impress (annoy) my neighbours! biggrin.gif

Hey Zoooooom, well done on braving this week's Task !

You've got a good grasp on the technique's involved in the lesson.. with some burshing up on the timing aspect it would probably net a high score on REC.. as it is, with the timing/phrases I'd probably give it a 7 but it would be interesting to hear what the other instructors think as well, so why not ? smile.gif

With the next phase of Tasks we'll be concentrating on improving left hand dexterity which will also carry over to any lead work you do ! smile.gif

hi Ben, hopefully my ninja like appearance at task 8 is okay mellow.gif this was such a cool sounding lesson I really wanted to jump in and give it a try........ couple days past your deadline but its such a long way up to this temple!

Also, I was looking to try a legato lesson and saw your latest task. I thought I'd give it a shot this week if thats cool?
I tried the lesson last night and found it pretty difficult but it needs to be done so we'll see how it shapes up over the week.

A Scottish Ninja !!!! ph34r.gif

This is a fine take indeed.. very solid and chunky, just like a Yorkie bar ! cool.gif

The lead parts are good too, the bending is pretty much on it all the time.. I look forward to your Ninja ways in Task 9 !

cheers matey biggrin.gif
Ive been working on my string bending a fair bit as its a real weak area, I seem to be able to to hit a bend just under or just over with frightening regularity! Cosmin put me on to your pre bend phrase book lesson which Ive been working on for about a week and a half which has helped loads.

LOL @ the yorkie bar..... I kinda want some chocolate now! btw us scottish ninjas have such pale skin due to lack of sun that we take on a near translucent effect...... we can pop up anywhere and you'll never know!

Just looked at task 8. Oh my! ohmy.gif level 4 difficulty. (It's only a number, right?)

After messing a bit with it yesterday, the most difficult part for me was the 16th note lick on the 8th fret.
I slowed it down to 30 bpm (had to put the metronome on 60) and had to actually pick the bent notes also, but then
the timing fell into place and I could "hear" it. I was then able to get it up to 70 bpm before I started to lose the
timing in my head. (going to try to get at least +5 bpm a day)

Question: I've been using my 4th finger on the 11th fret. I noticed Gabriel uses the 3rd finger. Would it be wise
to keep strengthening the 4th finger or is there a speed benefit to using the 3rd finger?

Thanks for all Sensei Ben, it's been very rewarding so far.

Glad to hear you sussed out that bend smile.gif

I would also use my 3rd finger there. When I'm playing bends out of nowhere (meaning you go straight to them from another position on the neck) I tend to favour the strongest fingers like 2nd or 3rd fingers smile.gif

However, I do use the 4th for bends but usually at the end of a run.

Ok I'm back with my take. It was a challenging week.
The good part was I got it up to speed (At the beginning of the week, I didn't even think
I was going to be able to reach 95 bpm). But then to get everything smoothed out just wasn't
going to happen. And hitting that record button has that tensing effect that even my comforting
cup of green tea couldn't counter. smile.gif

Anyways, here's my take:

Green tea rules ! biggrin.gif

That was good.. your tone sounded very similar to Gabriel's in this one smile.gif

I think your issue here is having difficulty playing phrases in quick succession.. if we took the time factor away, you're able to hit bends quite accurately. Of course, we've only got a week on each Task so there's not enough time to master each piece but tightening up the finger shifting aspect of your playing will help here.

When you change the power chords just before you start the lead riff, you end them quite quickly. Try to allow the chords to ring as fully as they can before you change positions. I know it can be difficult when you're not too confident with a chord change.. it's a natural reflex to stop the chord and think about the next one. Over time, we naturally address things like this as we get better at changing between chords. It's a bit like the finger shifting I mentioned before, there's no real magic formula that works on those areas. They just improve the more you play smile.gif Nice work !

Hi Ben!!
My Rec take:

Hi Alex, excellent take ! Your timing is really good for both the rhythm and lead section. Try not to cut the chords too short, like at 0:18.. and at the end. Try practising staying on chords as long as possible until it's time to shift to the next one.

Also, try to mix your guitar so it's a bit louder ! smile.gif
