Today I visited my luthier, just to change strings and get him to inspect the guitar if there are any problems. To my surprise he bought this guitar for himself

Very versatile tone nearing strat territory, but if you lower the tone-pot just a tiny bit (uses no-load pot, you feel then pot is engaged with a very tiny turn) roll's off the very highs making it suitable for high-gain shred. I highly recommend trying it. From there, I visited a friend who ordered a custom guitar. It went back once cause the pickups were made by the luthier himself and were terrible, changed to Fender singles and a SD humbucker. Arrived again yesterday and I went to inspect today, with new PU's sounded fine but full of deadnotes, odd harmonic's when sustained and lots of string buzzes. He was very bummed so I gave him some advice, cause I noticed setup issues. He'll be doing the fixes tomorrow hopefully things will be solved but I dought it will be perfect. He commented he really liked the previous guitars the luthier made so maybe its just his bad luck cause at first sight it looks very good (brazilian rosewood fretboard, birdseye maple neck...). |

I hope I see these on the rack at local stores. Love to try these at guitar center along with the Sarah Longfield strandbergs. Also, the crackle Jacksons should be showing up. Loads of cool guitars to try! I love looking at custom hand built guitars. They often have some amazing wood choices. the only bad thing is you can't really try them off the rack. You have to spend a wad of money and hope for the best. Sometimes it's amazing, sometimes it's not.
I have gotten to where I"ll buy guitars without having played them. Just happens on ebay sometimes. But it's usually for a couple / few hundred bucks worth of guitar, not a few thousand.
