Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Hi Josch! Welcome to the REC program and congrats on your first take!!

At first I have to say that the quality of your audio and video are great for this workout. It's ok to make it sound lighter in the future, but this is enough to let us monitor your practice and give some feedback.

Your overall work on this one is on the right way. I think that your posture is good, and there is nothing to say about your left hand work which looks well.

I notice that your timing is not totally precise and I think that there are 2 reasons for this. The first one is obvious: You need more days of practice to make your right hand more comfortable with the rhythm. The second reason is related to your right hand motion. If you analyse it and compare it, for example with Ben's movement in the lesson, you'll see that:

- The is some fingers movement here and there. When playing alternate picking, it's essential to start the movement from your wrist, and a bit from your elbow but avoid doing is from your fingers.

- You change the movement depending on the speed/figure. At this point, I would try to find one type of movement that works for both slower and faster rhythms. Again, check out your movement for 8th, compare it to 16th and triplets, and then go to the original lesson and notice how Ben's right hand keeps the same type of movement. This is not a must, more a suggestion that you'll really appreciate in the future.

Finally, another step would be to put some attention to dynamics, which would be the intensities of your picking. Check how the notes played with the strong beat are accentuated a bit.

Ok mate, that's all by now. I hope that these comments help. Feel free to contact me if you have any question.

Keep on the hard work!!

Yeah!! Awesome to see you here Josch!

I can clearly see you have put in some serious work here. The first thing I reacted on was your right hand movement. There is nothing really wrong with it - and sometimes I go for the type of movement myself as well. However with this lesson I would try to minimize the picking motion and use less of finger movement as Gab said. The reason being that the lesson is very clearly focused towards getting control of speed bursts / shredding.

I still felt you are close to the original lesson's sound and feel so you get a 7 from me.

Hey there Josch!

First half goes pretty nice. Timming is a little of but within some kind of tolerance range.

Real problem is the picking direction. It's random and irregular. Strong beats in the bar should be played with downstroke if you play 4,8 or 16th notes (doesn't refer for triplets). This kind of irregularities will be a cause of speed and sync issue once you reach even higher speeds. It's worth to work this out since the very beginning. Slow speed make you able to do things randomly but are just fine to carefully focus on each note and pick stroke. Get yourself some good habbits and you'll see how important that was in the future.
