GMC Forum _ Electronic Entertainment _ Watchmen (comic/movie)

(No spoilers on this post, just a short personal view on the film)

Just got back from the movies to see Watchmen on Opening Night. My thoughts for it is that it is GOOD.... VERY VERY GOOD. Although they left a lot of minor detail/good moments in the comics, they still kept the overall feel of the comics and transfered it pretty good on the film. This is not like any super hero movie you will ever see/experience. This is one just morbid and depressing, and very dark. Possibly the best Comic Book transfer that's been made. It is every bit as good as the comic. As enjoyable to watch as it is to read. 2 thumbs way up definitely. Go see it if your a fan of the comic, or maybe you saw previews and thought it looked good. I suggest if you would see the movie, then read the comic as well because the ending is different from both sides.

I've read the comic a few weeks back. If they are sticking to that, then this will indeed be a very different movie than the other superhero movies we've got sofar. Looking forward to seeing it.

I hope you guys would like it as well. Me and my friend Kyle where discussing it last night after the movie, and we both agree that it is a worthy movie.

(a bit of spoiler ending)

Have you read the comics Trey? If you did, then the ending would be a bit more "happy", rather than the original ending. It doesn't really suck just different but not to the point where they completely change it, but enough for it to end on the good side rather than the comic book ending which is depressing.

I am very excited to see this movie. I've never read the comic, but am familiar with the story. It looks amazing.

Not seen the film yet but like Vince I read the series when it came out back in the late 80s. One of the things I thought that set it apart from a lot of other graphic books was that it was dark and didn't go for a 'happy' ending. As such it was, to me, a more credible and believable alternative history with characters who were more believable because of their frailties. It kind of reminded me in that way of Philip K Dick's 'Man in a high castle' and also some of William S Burroughs stuff (there's a point in the comics where the multiple narratives move around, displace each other and interweave in a way to deliberately leave you questioning what is reality - very much like Burroughs' 'Naked Lunch' and the 'Cities' trilogy).

Trivial off topic note - a friend of mine did his PhD on Burroughs, the 'cut up' and his influence on alt music, new wave and the counter culture.

just wayched the trailer.. Oh am I hyped for this?!

Am I the only one who thinks that this movie was 2 1/2 hours of wasted lifetime?!?!

Maybe it's because I did not read the original but the film was boring, illogical and confusing to me...
It is not as bad as some Comic-movies (Punisher, Daredevil...) because it has this very refreshing ''dark atmosphere'' but all in all it's not nearly as good as the *Great* comic movies like the Spiderman, Batman, Sin City or 300 movies!

hah, I guess I was just a fanboy of the comics, and seeing as how this was a great adaptation was enough for me to win it over and put it up there as number 1 on my list. Zakk, I have to read the comics at least 3 times for me to fully digest everything that is being presented in the story. The one thing that kind of annoyed (not to a point where I would bring it up in a conversation that often) me here is the amount of ass nudity and 300-esq style of fighting. Yeah it was also made by the guys who directed 300 so go figure haha.

I'm kind of a comics-geek and I've covered a lot of marvel (mainly wolverine, punisher, spiderman) through the years but also enjoyes the two first Absolute Sandman Volumes. Do you guys recommend me reading the comic before I see the watchmen movie or not?

I didn't read the comic, but I didn't think it was a waste of 2 1/2 hours.. the movie was great, at points it did feel a bit confusing but all the confusing parts got tied together and made sense at the end.

Only problem I had with the movie is that were maybe supposed to be surprises(maybethey weren't supposed to be) didn't surprise me at all and I knew what they will be from the first 30 minutes of the movie..

Other than that, it was one of the best movies Iv'e even seen, and probably the best Iv'e seen in the last couple of years, even better than "The Dark Knight" in my opinion, the story is very good, and the ending brings out a point that not many movies would dare to bring up. plus it has incredible effects, sound, acting, action, even the dialouges didn't bore me and I'm ussually bored easily.
