Oh man sorry Kris but I am going to have to go with Steve Vai. I really think you should have left hammet out of that list.

I also don't believe that there is a best guitar player. We all have our favorites... SRV is one of my favorites. I tend to lean more toward blues players than the shredders.

I would definately go with Steve Vai. In terms of technical ability and feel for music and improvisation skills and all that, he is the master.

He has affected the music scene so much aswell.

Seems like there was a poll just like this not to long ago.

Stevie Ray Vaughan. And only if you have seen him live up close you will never ever know.

How could you leave SRV out of your list, I just don't know.

Darrell-

Hehe!

THis kind of list always result on some arguments - but that's the whole point of it, isn't it?

When I started practicing seriously I really didn't have any opinion of what was good and what wasn't. I borrowed quite some opinions from my guitar teacher berfore I could get my own.

This is such a difficult question - but If I had had to anser one I might say Allan Holdsworth for my part. This of course doen't imply he is your favorite guitarist...

PS I believe that is my teacher's (Kristian Niemann's) favorite one too... Have I really got an opinion of my own?? >:<

The best? That's though. It's not anyone on that list, I can tell you that much. There’s also a difference between the best and choosing a personal favorite. If I was going to pick a straight up best for technique/songwriting, I’d probably go with Shawn Lane, Allan Holdsworth, or Rusty Cooley. There’s no real way of determining any of it, because ultimately it boils down to an opinion, even if you’re trying to judge strictly on technique.

If we're talking about speed, Herman Li has seriously impressed me lately. But my all time favorite guitarists are Gilmour, Page and Hendrix, who I would say are the best : P

asking who is the best guitarist is like asking who is the best football player in the nfl. its impossible to get the right answer. there are so many phenominal guitarists out there. there are also a lot of guys that can just play really fast. if you can shred like hell on an electric but couldnt even play a simple 1 4 5 progression on an acoustic are you a good guitarist? i dont know. Stevie Ray Vaughan was the best blues guitarist ever. i think that is a fact. His repitoire of origional licks are endless. believe me when i say, ive seen and heard almost everything SRV has done. I think Jimi Hendrix had the best mind for the guitar. He wrote the most complicated songs. Any famous guitarist can play a good solo, (except for Kurt Cobain). Hedrix could think up riffs and play things so perfectly. I mean to think that Jimi Hendrix actually created the song Little Wing from nothing. Thats amazing. Castles made of Sand is another one. All along the Watch Tower. that song doesnt have any chords, but the timing is perfect. the mini solos become the chords.

THen you have speed and sound masters like Joe Satrini and Steve Vai. Zakk Wylde too. those guys are unbelievable, and play incredibly fast and have amazing tone, but given an acoustic guitar they would be limited.

i havent been around long enough to give my opinion of the best guitarist. i think the best active guitarist now is probably Clapton. Clapton has got a great sense of rhythm. Clapton feels the music like no other. Plus his solo's are kick ass too.

If there was someone who had stevie ray vaughans licks, jimi hendrix's mind, clapton's sense of rhythm and jamability, and Joe Satrini's speed and sound then they would be the best guitarist ever.

David Gilmour.

I just love his phrasing.

Simle licks but played with such a feeling.

I hate this kind of polls hahahahaha

"This guys sucks!" - "No - your guy sucks!" - "Mine has done so much for rock music!" - "Mine has f**** his wife!" - "Mine picks better!" - "Mine breaks the floyd better!" - "Mine plays with more melody!"

(With "Mine" i mean "my favorite guitarist")

I mean - WTF?????

I love Vai, Rusty, Satch, Luca Turilli, Andre Olbrich (Blind Guardian), Michael Angelo and many others but who cares if they are the best? The thing is - they are professional guitarists!

They are all devided in some categories - you can't put Slash and Rusty in the same that's for sure (Slash can't beat Rusty in speed even if his life depended on it)! So who actually cares??? Enjoy the music of your favorite guitarist and that's it!

I don't even know who my favorite is because i am blown away by Rusty and Luca Turilli at the same time. Francesco Fareri is also a monster shredder.

These topics and polls are useless!

Keep rocking!

Edit:

Just a little add-on:

don't think of what they have done for guitar and music - better think of your own life and what you are going to do with guitar and music!! smile.gif

i'd have to say one of the most versatile unique and interesting guitarist out at this moment has to be tom morello... rage against the machine, audioslave... the things he can do without anything digital thrown in is just insane! much respect for the guy... of course rage is one of my favorite bands of all time so i guess that isn't fair!! haha

remember i didn't say he was the best.............

there are soooo many guys with soooo many styles out there it's too hard to name just one for me...
