3, When i tune down to drop D, should only the low e string be tuned down? Yes 4, What thickness of strings do you perfer when you shred? It depends. Lower gauge is easier to control (bends, vibrato, etc), high gauge gives better sustain and is good for drop tunings. It all boils down to what you like. Try different gauges, see for yourself. Try some 9s, some 10s, etc. 5, Should i be tuned half step down when i pratice? for easier vibrato and bend I wouldn't do that unless you plan to stay that way. I mean, what's the point of making practice easier if the "real thing" won't be that easy? I have my SG downtuned half step, but that's because I use it to play lessons/songs which actually use that tuning. But most of thetme I practice with standard tuning. -------------------- Guitars:

I have no idea who that is... He's good, though. As for questions 1 and 2: 1:Try to be fairly relaxed. Don't strain yourself too much. You'll learn to hold rhythm much better if you relax your hand. But don't overdo it or you'll lose your pick out of a lifeless hand 2: All experience is good experience. If you learn one lick, your muscles will remember the technique, and you might find that it's easier to learn another one. I can only say this much: You won't feel like it's a waste of time This post has been edited by Canis: Jun 4 2009, 10:54 PM -------------------- GMC is not just a website... It's a lifestyle!

Hello! Just some simple questions! 1, When i practise speedpicking, should i bee compleatly relaxed, or should i struggel a LITTLE? 2, When i learn 2 or 3 different speedpicking patterns, will other speed lick be easier? 3, When i tune down to drop D, should only the low e string be tuned down? 4, What thickness of strings do you perfer when you shred? 5, Should i be tuned half step down when i pratice? for easier vibrato and bend 1. You should strive to be completely relaxed, but it won't be possible when playing something out of your comfort zone. Just try to relax as much as you can. 2. All licks you learn go into your muscle memory, so generally as many licks you learn you will have a better chance playing new licks without a problem. 3. For Drop-D tuning only low E string should be tuned to D. 4. 9s should be good for shredding as they are "softer" and easier to control. But if you can do it with 10s its better since they would sound a little more "powerful" due to string gauge. 5. No, I would recommend practicing in standard tuning or in tuning in which you play 90% of the time. There is no point in making bends easier etc and then not being able to do it right in standard tuning (in which most songs are) Cheers -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net

For speed picking, be completely relaxed as possible and work more on reducing movement/distance (the less of that, the faster you can go) and being accurate. Start off slowly and you pick up speed over time.
Don't stick on something for too long, change to another exercise pattern. You improve faster and when you come back you'll find it much easier. -------------------- Play Games Arcade Take a break, Play Games! Play the best free online flash games at Aaron's Game Zone like Bloons Tower Defense 4! |
