Hi domaingood! Welcome to the site! Great to know that you decided to get a guitar and the guitar pro! Every lesson here includes a guitar pro file that can be opened with the software. There you will find the guitar tabs to learn the song and if you press the bar you will be able to hear the notes. I have some questions....

Could you open a GP file? Do you know how to read tabs? What music style do you like?

Hello and welcome to GMC smile.gif

In terms of learning guitar itself, I definitely recommend working from the ground up with these beginner lessons by Bear Rose, starting at number 1 smile.gif

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/instructor/Bear-Rose/

Even though the lessons may use an electric instead of an acoustic, it doesn't matter. The chords and strumming techniques you will learn can be applied to either smile.gif

Hey mate and welcome! Aside from Ben's and Gabe's advices which will get you started with the guitar (I also think that Bear's lessons are an amazing starting point, even if you don't have an electric guitar).

The guitar pro can help you learn some theory as well, because you get to see exactly what you play in terms of notes, their positions, durations, chord forms and other useful things - one step at a time man smile.gif

Welcome !

Guitar Pro is software that is used for reading tablature (tab)
Guitarists often don't use notes but instead tablature. Its looks like this :

e------------------------------------------------------------
b------------------------------------------------------------
g------------------------------------------------------------
d------------------------------------------------------------
a------------------------------------------------------------
e------------------------------------------------------------

Each line represents one string of the guitar. The first line is the thinnest string of your guitar.

Creating guitar pro tab is more advanced and isn't necesary as a starting guitarist. If you want to remember chords that you learn here,
just write them down.

As said , there are really good beginner lessons to find in here

and there is a rec section here, so if you learn a lesson , you can record it and instructors will look at it
and grade you, they also give you feedback

Have fun at gmc !

Welcome to GMC! smile.gif I LOVE Guitar Pro! Are you asking how to make your own guitar pro files with chords? Just open guitar pro and click on

FILE/NEW/STEEL GUITAR

You will get a new sheet. Fill out the information in the pop up window. Now click on the top menu that says

NOTE/CHORD

and you get the chord window.

Here is a GP file with using chords from the files that ship with Guitar Pro smile.gif

Here it is in GUITAR PRO 6
Attached File  _Picking__Sciortino___Country_Ride.gpx ( 45.01K ) Number of downloads: 186

and

Guitar Pro 5
Attached File  _Picking__Sciortino___Country_Ride.gp5 ( 15.57K ) Number of downloads: 80

Is this clear after Todd and Snackajacks explanations?

If you want to learn some classical stuff, I recommend you to check Gerardo Siere's lessons.
