I spent most of yesterday installing and testing the new 64 bit release version of our mastering daw. For those interested here's a link to it and there's a limited 30 trial of the daw on that site if you want to test it.
Our version is the full sound suite, which costs about £3000 (three thousand) plus about another £200 for the authorisation dongle. You don't have to have the dongle if you only use it on one pc but we also have it installed on a couple of lap tops for location and broadcast work so we need it. The entry level version is around £2000. A few of the reasons why we use this daw for our mastering are: the PQ editing - something which is essential for mastering; the speed and depth of editing both in real time and off line. The trim window is very powerful for xfades etc and it doesnt hurt to have all the BBC editing hotkey shortcuts ; the integration with plextor CD writers. Here's a review of it when it was first released as 32 bit back in Jan 2011. -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer. Going to download this trial and abuse it for as long as I can. Then around the 30 day mark will start contemplating bank robberies.

The move to 64 Bit everything is really positive step IMHO. The ability to FINALLY address more than 4 Gigabytes of RAM seems long overdue in the software world and I"m glad to see it taking shape. Now that ram is so cheap, allowing applications to have just gobs of ram open up new territory for code guys. For example, if an application has 16 Gigabytes of ram available to it, it won't need to hit the swap file on the hard drive much if at all and can process everything an order of magnitude faster as it can all stay in high speed RAM memory. Recording and mixing extra ram can certainly be useful Todd but for mastering it isn't usually an issue for us. We rarely use plug-ins as pretty much all of our processing is via hardware and most of our work is 4 point editing on checkerboard two stereo lanes. Most of our dlight is more to do with no longer having the daw on an old 32 bit pc. QUOTE The BEST part is that I just noticed that Sadie comes with "Custom" IZOTOPE plugins (E.G. Ozone). Just can't get away from Ozone these days But hey, whaddya gonna do? It really is the secret sauce of Love/Joy. Todd To be honest I haven't looked at any of the Ozone plug ins as we already have better hardware and software and so don't need them. Ozone is fine for home/project studios but is off the mark at the pro end. I don't really understand why they were included as people who can afford the daw will almst certainly be pros. Now if they had included free copies of Cedar, or even Izotope RX Advanced, then it would have been a big bonus . -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer.
