I`m about to buy a new guitar which will mainly be used for heavyrock and metal. I`ve not completely made up my mind yet, but I`m currently hot for an Ibanez RGA prestige. I already have an Ibanez RG with trem, but I want to change this guitar since it`s lot easier to make big changes to the tuning on a guitar with stringthrough (or gibraltar bridge as on the RGA).

So I wondered if anyone has experience with the active pickups LZ4 or the passive pickups V7/ V8 (all Ibanez pickupsand how they sound for different styles of rock and metal.

Otherwise, please tip me of other guitar candidates biggrin.gif
I`ve checked a couple of brands, but the main problem where I live (small town at the Norwegian coast) is that the guitarshops don`t have so darn many guitars to compare (on of them got a bunch of Ibanez RG`s).
What I`m looking for is mainly a guitar for shreddingkind of metal, so I would like a flat and fast neck like Ibanez` wizard necks, stringthrough or solid bridge for easy tune and downtune, double and maybe a extra deep cutaway?

I don`t have experience with a lot of pickups or types of wood in the body (though I imagine that a heavy wood such as mahogny may give me heavy tone?) so I don`t have any specificrequirements here. blink.gif

Price range: around 1000€ / 1300$, but have in mind that if you google and find the american price on the guitar, the norwegian price is often the double sad.gif

Cheers biggrin.gif

well honestly ibanez is a nice guitar, i have one. But mine is an SA, but i only hear good things about the rga. I think you should get it. And honestly, if you dont like it, which I doubt, you can always sell it on ebay and probably get full refund. But you will like it

The pickups you mentioned are just better stock pickups, not what you would expect from a 1000€ guitar... unfortunatley Ibanez equips their great Prestige guitars with cheap pickups but you can always swap them for other pickups!

The RGA is great, nothing wrong besides a pickup swap if you don't like them.

Another similiar guitar would be the Jackson SLSMG (The red one Instructor Trond Vold Plays!!!) It has the same body style as the RG, string through (with great sustain), a slim neck (almost as thin as the Wizard Neck), a huge cutaway with 24 frets and it comes with EMG 81/85 pickups which are just AWESOME for Heavyrock & Metal!!!

You can order the guitars from Thomann, they ship to Norway!

It`s a nice guitar indeed! But I forgot to mention in my post above, I don`t want ordinary plain black, I want a bit more "good"looking guitar, maybe a little exotic finish smile.gif . For example flamed or quilted maple.

I don`t have much to say about the EMG`s. Those who play metal says they love them(usually) and more softrockers (not pussyrock, just not heavymetal) don`t like them. Someone calls it waste, putting EMG`s in a expensive guitar, because they claim you can`t separate the sound in a guitar to 300€ or 1000€. May be a false rumour?

And it`s a real bummer that the RGA`s only have ibanez stock pickups...last year`s most expensive edition had DiMarzio, but it seems like that one has disappeared.
