Hey Gmcers
i have been playing for a month and something now , still very noobish (cant even bend properly)
got into GMC 2 weeks ago (loving it)
i want to become one of the great guitarists of the world in a good progressive metal band
i am devoting all my spare time to my dream
im 16 now and maybe when im 18 i expect to be ina band playing in small gigs
(i know that its a very dificult goal but im gonna work for it)
i was hoping that you guys could give me some tips VERY VERY basic tips
so that one day when im a famous guitarist i might say GMC helped me at the time when i couldnt even bend a string properly
PS an also sujest some lessons ROCK ON GMC!!
These are some tips based on when i was starting out and stuff, i've got a LOT to learn but these might help a beginner:
you bet i do
Yep, Steve nailed it.
One more important thing, I've been playing for like 5 years and sometimes (before GMC) I got the feeling that I wasn't progressing or getting any better and I should just give up. DON'T give up, infact practice more. Nothing is more gratifiying than advancing in guitar I believe. I find alot of musicians feel this way from time to time and some actually give up.
"Sometimes you want to give up the guitar, you'll hate the guitar. But if you stick with it, you're gonna be rewarded."
-Jimi Hendrix
Lucky for us Jimi didn't...
like fatb0t said, never give up. The first year is the toughest i think, just push yourself hard and you will prevail.
Plus, you got the entire GMC Community at your back, any questions, feel free to ask!
thx guys i realy apriciate your help
looks like im gonna stay here for a very loooooooooooong time
BTW what happen to kris? havent seen him arround yet O.o
I've found that when you dont learn new things and take in other peoples ideas then the tendancy is for enjoyment to slump.
My advice, aside agreeing with the others, is to ALWAYS learn new things, no matter how difficult!
Persistance will pay off!
I've only been playing for a bit more than a year, but I might have some advice since the very begining was very recently.
My first advice would be to not focus on speed, you won't have any use for speed untill you have mastered the more basic parts of the guitar

My first advice would be to not focus on speed, you won't have any use for speed untill you have mastered the more basic parts of the guitar such as bending and vibrato. And try to dedicate a lot time to just goofing around, even if you want progress really fast.
Other than that, just look for faults in your technique all the time, it might get you really mad somethimes (at least that's how it is for me), but it pays off in the end.
A third thing would be to play a lot, try to play the guitar every day, except if you feel strained or something.
But most of all, just have fun.
yeah over the days i have noticed that the guitar is very teperemental
one day its very happy one day its very mad
its almost like being married LOL
Haha, indeed, I've thought the same, but I suppose that's what makes it so much more than just a hobby or whatever.
Totally
i think its closer to what a friend is more than a hobby
i often talk to her O.o
Just play your guitar man, and the rest will come in time have fun
