Hey Andy,
We are starting with your MTP work. As I promised, for your 1st assignment we will focus on some theory and harmony reading with questions. In the meanwhile I will prepare muting video for you that will be one of the next assignments in June. Please feel free to ask any questions regarding your assignments. All your work should be posted in this thread! Here is your 1st assignment. 1st assignment : Theory and harmony reading with extra questions! - I would like you to read my posts from links provided below. - Once you read it all, memorize 3 and 4 part harmony in C major scale. - Learn to apply scale degrees rather then numbers ( I in C major is C, IV in C is F etc). - Write out in this thread all notes for 3 and 4 part harmony in C major as well as in F and G major scales. Here are the links: Major scale harmony and chord functions Cadences Deadline for your 1st assignment is 9th of June! Let me know if you got any extra questions. Pedja |

Hi Pedja!
This first assignment is quite a challenge! I like it I've read both threads you told me. At first I was a little overwhelmed but I read it a couple of times and pieces are starting to fall in to place. I'm starting to see the light, the usefulness of the material you've handed me here, but it seems a big thing to digest. I have a couple of questions but I will leave them for tomorrow: I want to read this again with a clearer head to see if some sleeping rests ideas on my head and I can resolve them by myself (it's quite late now, I've been all day studying for my exams and I'm taking a look on all this after a looong day). I won't have practically no access to the internet this weekend since I have a trip planned to my gf's town, but I'll print out everything here to read it on my little free time. Even though I have previous music knowledge I think I have to review a number of things to fresh them up on my brain, it's been more than 15 years since I received my only theory music lessons. I found this basic theory site , I want to ask you if is good enough, if not please refer me to one! Even though the lesson is quite absorbing, I love it! I want challenging stuff that fits my level. I'm going to enjoy this lessons. Thanks, andy. Hi Andy!
Very glad to hear you are finding assignment challenging. Idea is to always push you to do more but within your realistic goal reach. I will try to keep the pace high if by any chance you are not able to do things that way we can always slow down a bit. I looked over the site you provided. I have actually seen that site before but I think explanations on it are done using more or less street language What I suggest you rather do when you have the free time is my posts on my Theory and Harmony board. You can find my board HERE. I look forward hearing from you more about the assignments. If you have any doubts or questions feel free to ask man. Pedja |

Here you have Pedja: 3 Part Harmony C Major Scale I - C: C E G II - Dm: D F A III - Em: E G B IV - F: F A C V - G: G B D VI - Am: A C E VII - Bdim: B D F F Major: I - F: F A C II - Gmin: G B♭ D III - Amin: A C E IV - B♭: B♭ D F V - C: C E G VI - Dmin: D F A VII - Edim: E G B♭ G Major: I - G: G B D II - Amin: A C E III - Bmin: B D F# IV - C: C E G V - D: D F# A VI - Emin: E G B VII - Fdim: F# A C Now that I see you online, correct me if i'm wrong please! On 4 note Chord Harmony this is the structure: I - maj chord + 7 major II - min chord + 7th min III - min chord + 7th min IV - maj chord + 7 major V - maj chord + 7th minor VI - min chord + 7th minor VII - don't really know Hi Andy, This is great work for the 1st assignment. In the 2nd thread I gave you for reading (Cadences) you will see more about 4 part harmony and their chord types. I like it that you view them as triads + some sort of 7th. Check out this thread HERE and following text and it should be clearer! 4 Part harmony If you want to get "fancy" with chords and chord progression you can extend it to 4 part chords which are : I (C major7) II (D minor7) III(E minor7) IV (F major7) V (G dominant7) VI (A minor7) VII (B minor7b5) VIII(C major7) As you see with 4 part chords harmony looks a bit different than with triads. Scale degrees I and IV have MAJOR 7 chords. Scale degrees II, III and VI have MINOR 7 chords. Scale degree V has Dominant 7 chord (BLUES CHORD). Scale degree 7 has MINOR7b5 chord. Hope all that helps! Pedja |

Intensive week I've had, 4 exams in 4 days in a row. Sometime tomorrow I expect to do the assignment!
I wanted to tell you I've bought an audio interface, at quite a good price Konnekt 24D. Not that I'm really worth recording, but have some good friends who are (vocally) and I want to start a modest home studio. I'll will also be able to record the guitar lessons you assign me (if I find out how to make it work, haven't had many time due to my exams). I still have some exams left, but worse has gone by. I'll be increasing my dedication to your lessons progressively from now on. Cheers, Andy -------------------- Epiphone Les Paul Custom Black, Fender Champion 600, Ibanez TS808 my only gear :)

Andy here is remaining 2 assignments for June!
3rd assignment: REC lesson Triads in a major scale Part 1 - Check out Triads in a major scale Part 1 HERE - Use backing track provided to record it. - Upload video on Youtube and embed it here. - Submit it for REC grading and in this thread here. 4th assignment : Superimposing with minor pentatonics + improvising - Read Superimposing with Minor Pentatonics post HERE - After reading the whole thing with related link posts, think about choosing one chord and one approach you will use for recording! - After you have chosen your approach, record a backing track with that chord and on top of that record yourself soloing with 1 or all 3 minor pentatonics corresponding with that mode! - Post your work in this thread. Let me give you an example here. Lets say that you have chosen A minor as your chord. Now you also chose A minor to be treated as II (Dorian sounding). In that case you should play minor pentatonics from G major scale ( A , B and E minor pentatonics) over A min chord in the background. 4th assignment asks you only to pick 1 but it also allows you to use all 3 pentatonics if you want to. Backing track doesn't have to be anything fancy for this purpose. Just guitar playing the chord will do, if you want to add bass and drums to that to make it sound tighter go ahead! Deadline for both assignments is 30th of June. Let me know if you got any extra questions Andy! Pedja |
