Wassup guys. Haven't been on a forum for a while. I think we should have some pushing funky 70-s collab. I've made a backing track with a simple blues progression, but with rhythms inspired by 70-s funk songs and some modern atitude of Daft Punk.
Harmony(listen to the clavinet you can use it's voicings but also just rely on G#m pentatonic) G#m/D#m7/C#m7/G#sus4/G#m/C#sus4/Emaj7/G#m
Scales G# Pentatonic minor http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/scalegenerator G#minor http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/scalegenerator
Some must listen songs to feel the vibe:
Tips It would be great to hear your takes. Just keep it simple, do not go over speed limits. It's all about the groove and timing. BTW, try to use not too much distortion, and it would be great to use some kind of airy reverb to keep the backing breating. Everyone is welcome, just post your takes in the thread as usual or send me an e-mail: [email protected] 1)Guitar only mp3/wav 2)Mixed mp3/wav Deadline is 9th of February. Let's have a good time

Hi! This is my take hope you like it ... if i have time i try to record another take with best settings and most accurate tempo... but i don't know if i can....
Hey, David that sound nice. There are few timing issues, hope you'll have time to fix it. But i can see a nice solid melody in your take. Btw good sound

Posted by: huargo Jan 29 2014, 04:01 PM
Uff another take... better timing but... i added some noises on top to make a 70's groove like brazzilian or something... hope you like it!
Nice solo mate. Great job! It has a very cool feeling and groove. What's that "voice synth" that follows your guitar melody?
Posted by: huargo Jan 29 2014, 06:01 PM
Thanks Gab, correct solo for a very nice backing track!!! The "synth" is 4 tracks of my voice with all the stuff, delay, chorus, flanger, reverb.... not really in pitch but sounds cool for me.
Posted by: Jouve Jan 29 2014, 06:17 PM
Yeah! It's certanly better and very creative. Sounds very much like jazzy latin funk fusion

Hey Jouve, nice backing! I usually don't like to borrow licks for these things but this time I couldn't help myself. I borrowed some lead lines from a song from the 80's, and then added a harmony line to it. Can anyone guess the song these lines came from?

Nope, not from a tv show, but a very popular band in the 80's, It might be easier to guess without the extra harmony and the backing.I think it is only a half step away from being in the key of the song the licks come from.
[attachment=35715:funky_collabnbpt1.mp3] Great takes everyone! Especially Huargo, very creative man! And Gabriel, what can I say? You got skills bro! And Tony, I especially liked the little chord vamp at the end.
It's great as usual. You know that ending lick of yours is just so much fits the style

Yes a bit, to make it sound more interesting - I had a better version recorded on my phone, the night before recording this I was in the mood and it had more bite somehow, but alas.. it was on the phone not in the DAW..

Arh, I didn't mean it as if I didn't try. I just got stuck in playing something I didn't like over it - something that didn't sound too good, but I couldn't get rid of the idea still. I try over most backing tracks for collabs

That 'stuck' you need to get over that - by that, I mean, you should learn to accept that there is no 'perfect' take - there is of course, the 'perfectly executed' take, but in respect to composition and phrasing there can always be a feeling that - hey, I could've done better. You could, but NOW, this is the best there is Enjoy it and share it with the rest - you never know how you will evolve by doing that

You know, i felt the same way. I couldn't come up with anything special . So i just played some pentatonic phrases, and stole 1 lick from another brick in the wall I certanly agree with Cosmin, just have fun with it. Sometimes you can play music by playing with music. Just have fun, that's all about it
