GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ The Most Amazing Band To See Live....

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Feb 17 2008, 05:20 PM

Hey GMC! I don't remember if we talk about this in the forum but it's always great to talk about this! smile.gif You know that with my band Cirse are doing the rehearsals to begin to present our first album and I'm always wondering how to do a great, interesting, amazing show... so we are always trying new things and watching DVDs... I can say that I find Jane's Addiction Live Shows one of the most amazing.. however I only see them on DVDs... Talking about the bands that I could see in Argentina, I remember Nine Inch Nails show as one of my favourites. I also enjoyed Kiss live.

What the most amazing band to see live for you?

Posted by: DeepRoots Feb 17 2008, 05:28 PM

I remember when i saw iron maiden- the stage was awesome, Bruce was playing so well to the crowd and jumping off all sorts of things. I remember janick was insane- swinging his guitar around from his strap and spinning around and running about on stage while playing blistering leads- that was awesome.

Also dream theater- but i think it was more to do with "omg im watching dream theater". The video part of the show is really cool- but just their music is enough to make an awesome show. There are little parts during the show where you might see for example portnoy making a rude gesture about petrucci's extended soloing (as a joke ofcourse) and i think that was really cool to see them having so much fun on stage.

I think too many bands try to look cool on stage and the show just falls flat on its face- boring....

^^these guys rocked my socks off though biggrin.gif

I was very impressed with Tool when I saw their live show last year, probably the best live band I've seen.

Posted by: Alucard Feb 17 2008, 05:33 PM

Rhapsody of Fire looks amazing live. Unfortunately I've only been able to judge off their live DVD, but hopefully they'll come to Michigan soon laugh.gif

Iron Maiden have a great show and Dream Theater an awesome playing... so it's really difficult to try biggrin.gif

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Feb 17 2008, 05:38 PM

Iron Maiden with Dickinson was awesome. I really enjoyed that show. I saw Dream Theater two years ago and they didn't sound good so I came back home sad... sad.gif
ActiveX: You saw tool live! You are very lucky man! Tell me more about that show! smile.gif

I saw them in an opened stadium and it was a day with strong wind. This place is very big and I never enjoy the bands that I see there...

Posted by: Juan M. Valero Feb 17 2008, 06:44 PM

yeah, I supose that would be the reason... they always have a great tune and a great tech's

Posted by: Pavel Feb 17 2008, 06:58 PM

For me it has to be Blind Guardian or Rhapsody Of Fire- i saw both on DVD's only (i saw G3 live and DT live) and those are 2 bands that really make an awesome "family" atmosphere on their concerts smile.gif

Posted by: The Uncreator Feb 17 2008, 07:03 PM

Iron Maiden, No one comes close to it, its just so amazing.

I must also mention Nightwish, beautiful shows, and The Black Dahlia Murder for being the most violent and intense show ive ever seen smile.gif

The problem with Dream Theater Live is that the vocalist Labrie is awful and has much editing on albums. My favourite bands live have been The Pixies, Muse, Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Megadeth and that's it I guess.

That is an official release and so therefore would have been edited in studio. Get a video of him live that is an amateur shot off youtube. You willsee the difference. I've seen them 4 times. All times he has been awful. Rest of the band are always spot on.

AFI is clearly the most amazing band I could see live. Following are some various performances by them.

For me it would have to be either Bruce & E street band or Iron Maiden.

One has the greatest live rock I've seen, the others the best heavy smile.gif

Posted by: Davidian Feb 17 2008, 10:14 PM

I really like Lamb Of God. They have an awesome live show biggrin.gif
Stone Sour is nice too! Corey knows how to interact with the audience!

I saw Tool too, but I didn't find them that good...
But it was on a festival, and I was standing on the side of the audience...
Might have been that.

EDIT: And Maiden ofcourse! biggrin.gif
EDIT 2: And Black Dahlia Murder! Insane show! And their singer is a very nice guy

well, in the last years James have improved a lot, last time that I saw DT he had an awesome voice... in fact he said that he had some health problems related with his voice for lot of years but now he is Ok and he had his own voice wink.gif

Trevor is pwnage, his stage presence is like a maniacal robot bear on stage laugh.gif

Ive heard good things about Between the Buried and me.. i actually had someone tell me that the album "colours" played live was better than Opeth and Dream Theatre... i spit out my coffee at the statement but maybe.. best live performance i have to say is Blind Guardian smile.gif.. mastadon is pritty amazing too

You know.. I like Dream Theater very much and I was a fan of them when I was younger and I think that I have the same problem than you. When I hear them live I preffer the music over the vocals... I think that Labrie finds very difficult to sing the high notes and I feel like if he would be suffering.

I'll check the band.. Between the Buried and Me, the AFI live links and Lamb of god live.. Thanks!

So the results would be that for the most of you the most amazing bands live are Iron Maiden and Dream Theater... any other one? smile.gif

I love a lot of Dream Theater studio I just don't think James Labrie can handle the live performance. Still love listening to the music though. Aerosmith were really great live also.

yes, he is perfect at the studio. I also enjoyed Aerosmith live the last year, lots of hits and rock and roll... a great show!

I'll not accept any DT bashing here laugh.gif He does struggle from time to time- but i go for the music. It would be a bit less exciting if every song was an instrumental- and the melody lines for the vocals are often written very high > blame Petrucci lol

I think LaBrie is an importnant part of DT- i do prefer him in the studio ofcourse- however seeing them live is all about Petrucci (i had to witness the speed with my own eyes, as proof that he wasnt speeding up things in the studio laugh.gif laugh.gif )

The best time I've seen them is supporting Iron Maiden at Parc Des Princes Stadium, France

Posted by: The Uncreator Feb 18 2008, 04:51 PM

Alright, i gotta add one more band, 3 Inches Of Blood, Cam Pipes can hit all the high notes and do it perfectly without losing a beat, 3IOB live is truly one of the most metal experiences ever.

LASTLY...

I must add this.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5ciJcksiEU

The opening scream is so EPIC!!!!!

Posted by: Smikey2006 Feb 18 2008, 05:08 PM

thanks for that video uncreator .. that was amazing.. and ive found a new band biggrin.gif

Posted by: Luciana Feb 18 2008, 10:09 PM

The most amazing show that I've seen on dvd is Madonna, and the one that I prescenced is Nine Inch Nails at the Luna Park (Buenos Aires).

For me one of the best bands to see live are The Tragically Hip.

One of only a very few bands who I believe sound better live then on CD. Gordon Downie (Singer) has amazing energy on stage and the way he interacts with the crowd, he really knows how to get it going. Their songs are just infectous so it's hard not to enjoy and they play everything to perfection....I've seen them many times live and they have yet to disappoint. Check out their "One night in Toronto" DVD if you can or even better go see them if they are in your town. Just a great rock band.

rok

(I'm hoping to see Flogging Molly later this fall and I just know they'll be amazing live.)

Posted by: kyldeee Feb 19 2008, 12:42 AM

I haven't seen that many live shows sad.gif But the best show that I've seen on DVD is Dream Theaters Metropolitan 2000: Scenes from New York... That was awesome biggrin.gif

Posted by: dango Feb 19 2008, 12:55 AM

I would like to see Green Day, if I have chance.
I have seen Muse at Wembley Stadium last summer. That was great, fantastic!. That night's gig will be on DVD next month, I am quite looking forward to it. smile.gif

Posted by: Fsgdjv Feb 19 2008, 01:02 AM

The best I've seen is Porcupine Tree, no doubt. I didn't understand how cool Steven Wilson was untill I saw them live, and well. It's the best day of my life so far, it was the most amazing gig ever. Cult of Luna was close though, they were really magical live.

Allthough, in a month I hope that my answer will be different, since I'm going to see Opeth, Katatonia and Comus in less than a month.

+1 on the Tragically Hip. I don't actually own any of their cd's, but I try to see them live every time they come to town.

I saw them twice on their last tour. Just so much fun to see...and the music just speaks for itself. You gotta love Downie though, he's sucha nut. But his vocals are amazing.
