GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ Worst Band?
Posted by: Roko Jan 19 2008, 07:25 AM
I know that this forum is supposed to be about all our favorite bands, but I'd like to ask what GMC people think is the worst band (or the worst bands) in history would be.
Posted by: FretDancer69 Jan 19 2008, 07:34 AM
well, just like there are tons of good bans, there are tons of bad ones. But imo, one that i hate alot would be Fall Out Boy
Posted by: Fsgdjv Jan 19 2008, 10:22 AM
I agree with matt, music is always subjective, so you can't really name a worst band like that.
However, the band that I dislike the most is definely Manowar.
Posted by: Milenkovic Ivan Jan 19 2008, 12:24 PM
Well, the worst band is the band that cannot play properly, acts stupid and unprofessional, and where bandmates doesn't respect each other. I really don't know...
Posted by: Mackietao Jan 19 2008, 12:42 PM
if there is such a thing as the worst band ever you haven´t heard of it...
Unless they are your neighbor or something.
So this question is kind of pointless. You could have asked something like "Worst famous band ever"... But then again they wouldn´t be famous if some people didn´t like them so it all comes down to your own taste. Serious bashing/war potential in this thread

I vote for Britney Spears or isn't that a band O_o
I just dislike all bands who don't write their own music

For people over 14 and people who arent girls, its probably Tokio Hotel
No, it's just, that I really dont like them, I just can't stand that music.
Gen, I am sorry to tell you this, but Tokio Hotel isn't cool!

I think this thread should be called least favorite bands as worst bands is a totally subjective matter.
My least favorite bands would be any -core, pop-punk, emo bands, e.g.
Sum 41, Blink 182, My Chemichal Romance, Avenged Sevenfold, etc.

I'd probably have to agree with fox....i just can't seem to feel the emotion on bands like Simple Plan. However, with the subjectivity of the topic, it's gonna be hard to agree on one band that just down right stinks.....

I'd say most people in this community can agree that Sum 41, Greenday, Fallout Boy, Hawthorne Heights, etc. are pretty bad because it isn't instrument oriented and contains little to no talent, which is a well-known fact. These bands get so much attention because casual music listeners like them and don't really know any better. Any serious music listener isn't going to be listening to punk/hardcore/etc.

Yeah, this really annoys me. It's even more annoying that a band like Fallout Boy or Greenday probably has more fans than an awesomely musically talented band like Symphony X (saw your sig)
Oh, and no offence to any nu-metal fans, but I must add Korn and Slipknot to my list

I wouldn't say thats true at all. I definitely consider myself a "serious" music listener, I definitely like at least some older greenday (permanently in my library) and I listen to newer stuff from time to time. Now sum 41, FOB and HH I can agree with
But to say that "serious" music listeners don't listen to punk/hardcore/etc is ridiculous.
I guess I'm wondering what you classify as punk. How about elvis costello? The clash? If you mean mostly newer stuff, I can see what you mean and almost agree with you, but I think to cast a blanket statement like that over especially multiple genres is usually not right.
Personally my least favorite kind of stuff is strangely also some of my favorite stuff. I love dream theater mostly because of mike portnoy and petrucci. But I don't like the majority of the stuff they do, and I really don't like james labrie. I feel the same way for Rush, just replace labrie with Geddy Lee (though he's a good bassist
).
But I guess that's not really my least favorite stuff, so I'd have to say extreme pop music. Exceptions being stuff like prince, or michael jackson who are both great IMO. But I mean like brittney spears, or especially a lot of pop-country music which you hear a lot where I live. My least favorite band may be rascall flatts. I hate their singer, and the fact that they have a good guitar player in the band only accentuates how bad the rest of it is to me

(I´m not really only responding to your message. )
Lol... Now that´s a very subjective input. And I get the feeling that what you mean as a serious listener is someone who actually is pretty one dimensional really in their listening. Just because it´s hard to play doesn´t mean it has to be good, or the other way around. In fact, as my own opinion I think it´s quite few songs that are very technical and still has nice melodies, good lyrics (if not instrumental) and really get emotional, really speaks to you. I think us guitarplayers appriciate guitarmasturbation a whole lot more then the rest of earth =)
But I must admit I don´t get the whole idea of a serious listener. Is that someone who sits and listens to music and does nothing else then sitting still. Analyzing every riff/beat they make? Now why did they put a +9 chord there instead of a +7.... For my own use I love music the most when I - play it myself - seeing it live - listen to inspiration while working out - enlighten my days at work... Not really cutting it down to little pieces going all theory in the piece. if it feels good, it is good.
I for once was pretty one dimensional before I started study music many years ago. (basicly listened to RATM, Blind Guardian, Megadeth, Metallica and eurodisco.. A few few hiphop songs and that´s about it. Had started growing a bit with some KoRn, progressive hardrock and Meshuggah. Mostly because that band is from my town.) The more I played the more I liked different kind of stuff. I´m not saying you have to like radiomusic. Most radiomusic I don´t like either. But basicly bashing a few genres that is pretty much proven good because many people like it puts you in a position where it might be hard to say other people don´t know any better.. Odds are not on your side =)
Btw
slipknot are great, Corey Rules! My Chemical Romance is pretty awsome too, lots of energy. And KoRn has some pretty bad ass songs too. They created a lot that is really good. I have not yet seen that band live yet, but I´m sure that they are going to be great as all well when I see them Feb 1.th.

One band i have to disagree with is Sum41. Although the instruments are very simple, the ex guitarist david brownsound went on to do a solo project which was totally amazing.. i can't give you more info on it tho
Sum 41 and alot of these punk bands write music for a different reason, number 1 being its fun and people enjoy listening to do. Ive rescently discovered punk again and realizing that just because it doesn't take talant doesn't make it music and doesn't make it fun to listen to. Personally i can't stand emo but some of these bands in their early days were having fun and writing things people enjoyed which is enough to make me not dislike them
Personally my least favorite artist is an indie writer by the title of Bright Eyes. His instrumentals are all done by him and i don't mind them.. He cannot sing.. and his lyrics (although make sence) do not work with eachother. (example he titles a song Bowl of Oranges, and uses orange as a rhyming word in the song.. Orange does not rhyme! with anything

I do that all the time...What I mean by serious music listener though is someone who may hear a song on the radio that they like, then they go home and look them up on wikipedia, read about their history, go to their myspace, check out new songs and maybe buy some albums, where as a casual music listener would just forget. Basically I define a serious music listener as someone who keeps music at the forefront of their life and not in the background.
And I didn't mean to bash the "whole" punk genre. I meant most modern punk stuff like Greenday, Sum 41, etc. But even in classic punk, if that is what you call it, there isn't much technical skill at all. It is fine to like that kind of stuff, but for me, music and guitar is a challenge, therefore I want to listen to a band who has
complete control and authority over their instruments and can virtually force them to perform anything; for example Dream Theater and Rush.

I would have to say Avenged Sevenfold..... I just cannot stand their music, and I especially don't like them live. Sounds bad...

I like this - you like that - why not focus on what you like and ignore without dissing it that which you do not???
Someone who likes trickier music is not better than someone who likes easily accessible songs such as those by Greenday or the like.
The fact that they think they are speaks volumes about them and says nothing about the music or the music fans that they look down upon.

Blink 182=(Or anything involving Tom Delonge playing guitar
Bush
Audioslave
Linkin Park
Godsmack
Silverchair= cant believe there first album (frogstomp) was great and now there playing this fairy music.
Coheed and cambria= or whatever there called
Korn= another band that really went downhill
There's so many bad bands today i dont have enough space to fill in.I do atleast respect that they make there own stuff and actually use instruments but honestly these are some very boring bands for me.

I have to disagree .I cant say being famous means your good .Because for one money talks and with it you can get anywhere in life including MTV and the radio.Actually some of the best bands are probably some of the ones we will never here because of lack of money and no connections with people in the buisness or lack of (image) of what someone thinks you should look like.
Definatly see your point being if they made it all the way thats talent but just feel it goes so much beyond that.

Don´t you know there are some serious musicians behind her
Sure they trying make hits and perhaps not music they would like the most. (that´s just an assumtion)
But they are very skilled. Pro musicians of Muris caliber hired by a record company. And a couple of writers too. And then they make songs that are not that superhard to sing but it´s fairly catchy.
As far as she goes, I have no clue about her music skills. But the "band" is probably not garbage. But for sure she is not close to being a favourite singer of mine.

All this Sum 41 bashing! They're great fun. Not an amazing band, but fun nonetheless.
Avenged Sevenfold - Waking The Fallen was a really good album. Now however, they are absolute trash. Everything else they have done has been awful.
Bands I hate the most: Trivium. I mean Ascendancy was an alright attempt. But then what the hell happened? They became Metallica (who were the most average thrash band when they were thrash, and now are just downright boring).

Hi,
I also read all the thread, and I would just like to add that a band can't be judged by technicalities. And yes, one can number its favorites bands but no one is able to classify a band as worst or best.
One of the bands I like the most is a brazilian one, called Legião Urbana. The guitars are so damn simple that lots of people in Brazil starts learning guitar by playing their songs... . Even the melodies being simple they were enjoyable to listen, the singer was really amazing, and the lyrics are so deep that I can't really describe to you all.
P.S. Once I went to watch a Free Jazz trio that supposedly was one of the most acknowledged ones from Europe. They were very good technically and really virtuoso ones. To me , however, they were playing each one a different song. That was my worst experience with music, but I can't really call them the worst band ever, because I don't know all the bands in the world. And even if I did that would be just my personal taste

As for the idea of worst band, I try to stay away from that kind of description exactly because of the subjective nature of each of our choices.
I think that like everyone here, there are musical styles that I prefer and I would rather concentrate on that aspect.

but I really don't see LaBrie getting involved with his audience
You think so?
I think he's pretty much "involved" with his audience in that vid : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzsSZly1FZU

Worst band ever end of story. Anyone who thinks they have 1 miligram of talent needs some serious reconsideration. I mean just listen to the opening vocal note, HORRIBLE. 2:40-3:00 is unbelievably horrible. The singer runs out of breath and all the members get out of sync and they have to stop while performing then start roflcopter. The last 10 seconds are so funny as well.
EDIT: I thought A7x was bad until I saw this. A7x is the best band ever when compared to this one.

I thought it was fine. More for kids, not me, but they had a good groove. Why knock them?
Then again, I like Green Day. At least their older stuff. Newer stuff is ok, just they had already done it, and done it better for the most part.

I like greenday too. I think they did fine too, but it's just the kind of thing that makes me nuts
It was pretty tight though, I'll give em that.
