GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Help With Fr Bridge Tuning?

Hello GMC

I Found out that I went a bit in over my head with this one
Last week I bought my new Cort EVL X4, Little I suspected about this floating bridge. I believe its called a "Floyd Rose" by principle. This contraption apparantly is very useful, but difficult to operate. And so far it proved quite the puzzle.

I know I might shouldn't have chosen a guitar with this accessory as a beginner, but now the damage is done and I really like the guitar.

Wondered if there's some "FR for beginners" now I did purchase this device..

As far as I figured;
1: Normal tuners, on this guitar, I suspect they are only used to "rough tune" the strings.

2: At top, string retainer (Should not be adjusted by me I think) And at the arrow is the nut lock system. My preliminary observation and crude research tell me; that after the normal tuners have been roughly adjusted, you lock the strings with this.

3: And this is where one fine adjust the tuning on the top screws. I would think the floating bridge should be as aligned with the guitar body as possible at standard tuning floating position.

I know at some point I make some mistake in this, because I can't get it to work properly. Everytime I tune the strings, they are out of tune when I check them over afterwards; And I can just keep going like this.

Another wierd thing is, that the B string and the bottom E, sometimes when I tune them they "jump" and make a really creepy sound. Like when I turn the tuner the string hesitate just a bit and then "yank" This happens both when loosened and tightened. Everytime when I turn the normal tuners, the nut lock has been loosened, All 3 screws.

This is a Cort EVL X4, The strings on it are the ones equipped out-of box. As far as I can tell on Cort's site it should be D'addario EXL110(046-010). My tuner is a Korg CA-30 Chromatic tuner. When I use it, the guitar's volume knob is at max. and jacked directly into the tuner.

I feel like I'm being pranked here, and I'm desperate to get my new guitar to work properly Please help.

Are they going sharp or going flat?

If they are going sharp, you need to loosen the spring adjustment screws at the back of the guitar.
Remember: Make TINY tiny adjustments here!

If they are going flat, maybe you need to stretch the strings.

Generally, do not lock the nut until the strings stay in tune.
Leave it for a couple of days.
