Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: String-Skipping Melodies by Trond Vold

Hi Gab, Darius, Ben Kristopher and all GMCer
I work this lesson since several months with a metronome.
I use Fretwraps because have a lot of difficulty with the palm mute

During my trainings I play with fretwraps and sometimes without it.
I don't master some slide sequences with the palm mute - The noise is unpleasant.

I know that I have to work still, but I want to learn another lesson

Thx for your avice

Hi MisterM!

Good job as always! This lesson is really close. It's not an easy job to play all those string skipping ideas tight with the tempo. It reminds me to the way Guthrie Govan creates his lines, full of string skipping and slides covering the whole fretboard.

There are some moments in which you rush a bit the tempo, while some others the notes are played and ended so quickly to reach the following part of the lesson. This is not dramatic and I'm sure that you'll be able to fix it with more days of practice.

The slides also have room to improvement, but I think that it's related to the same issue, you need to get more familiar with the whole lesson to connect the phrases smoother.

Keep on the good job!

Hey there our guitar addicted friend smile.gif

To avoid duplicating Gab's observations I'll write what are my conclusions on the muting problem.

At some point of your guitar education you have managed to work out your own kind of right hand mechanics - shape, resting points, angles etc. The problem is your hand playes mostly "in the air" with no solid contact with the strings. It's a kind of hand shaping popular among jazz players. The problem is it does not work same well for distorted solo. I'm afraid it's a kind of habit that can't be fixed for one particular lesson purpose.

Please take some time with relax and focus to review this:

I'm afraid it's all related with how we handle playing on distortion and it would need a huge change in your current habits, to make it work without any additional muter/dampener or something.

Hi, it's good to see you working on some different styles of lesson.

Gabriel and Darius have already identified the key areas of improvement that are needed. I will echo what Gab said about cutting notes short in order to more to the next note.

This is definitely noticeable just before you hit that last bend!

Overall, though, there's nothing too bad that we can hear.. it's mainly small tweaks needed to timing and being able to let notes occur for their full duration.

Excellent info from Darius covering the muting aspect!
