Arh, I used to listen a lot to Godsmach 5-6 years back. Haha. Don't know the genre. I liked some of their more... exotic songs... like "Voodoo". http://vodpod.com/watch/1361324-godsmack-voodoo

Yes, I really like this band. They are like a mix of New Metal with Alternative and Grunge. Disturbed is also a good band in this style. I think that they are a mix of Alice in Chains with Metallica (Black and Load albums ) with a modern sound. (Gibson Les Paul + Mesa Boogie amps).

Have you checked this lesson?

My favorite from them is "I stand alone" from the king scorpion movie. But I haven't heard all their songs, so most probably there are better ones:)

not Metal at all. They could be lumped in the Alternative Rock/Hard Rock genre by the way there music is.

That's the genre i like the best wink.gif And i really think that this genre thing has become a bit to complicated, like lets say a Melodic trash/viking/symphonic/power metal band with influences of blues.

That's not really but kind of what you hear all the time when someone talks about a bands genre (not saying that anyone here did it) but isn't it just enough to say that a band play death metal, metal, rock, blues, jazz?

I'm tired or something sad.gif

Yes to some level. Some Metal genres are a bit crazy. I just pretty much removed the genres that are just purely based on Lyrical content as a whole. Viking Metal in my eyes doesn't exist to what context it is now. Bathory's later releases were indeed Viking Metal, but bands coming out nowadays that are just playing Death or Black with Viking lyrics and calling it Viking Metal is just not gonna work for a whole different sub-genre altogether. I mean if a band is playing Death Metal, but with viking lyrics, shouldnt that band be just Death Metal with Viking lyrics, and not Viking Metal. Bathory did it perfectly, because no other band did what he did. He made a whole new Metal genre (Viking Metal).

Genres like Melodic/Progressive/Brutal/Death/Black Thrash serves its purpose though. There is a huge difference between Mekhong Delta, Stone (fin), Morbid Saint, Sodom, Exodus, and Demolition Hammer. Yes, they all played the standard basis of Thrash Metal but with its own twist. All this genres btw pretty much came out in the same decade as the original Thrash Metal scene. Just different influences from different countries.

Sub-genres exist for a reason though. But genres based on lyrics or themes should not be called anymore than what they play.

Yeah Sub-genres is good to have, but i just don't get the arguing that gets about every bands style, when everyone is starting to add lots of different genres i never even heard of.

For me, I use around 2 Sub-genres at most, and i would never start an argue about it except if someone would say that Britney Spears is Melodic death metal.

You get the point smile.gif
