Got the special edition on day one wink.gif

Great Album and the best Trivium has done so far. The whole album was played on 7strings and 5string bass for the first time in the band's history. It has the Singing from The Crusade AND the screaming and growling from the first two albums. The drums are now not only heavy but also Groovy, bass has become a lot better since Paolo's playing with his fingers and there are also a few bass solos on the record. Guitar work has once again become better: awesome solos thrash and heavy riffs are extra heavy on those 7 strings.

The whole album was record analoge and tracks were laid down in one big take so you can really hear authentic playing with dynamics which is refreshing in a time where Metal sounds like Pop music thanks to all that digital mastering...

The songs on Shogun are very epic and have mindblowing chorus parts! There are thrash songs(kirisute Gomen), modern metal songs (into the mouth of hell we march) , extreme heavy tracks (throes of perdition), almost commercial songs (the calamity) and a 11 minute long title track with accoustic guitars and a Queen style solo.

Yeah, matt said he did that solo on shogun on an original 59' les paul Goldtop, and the producer said "if the album goes platinum in the U.S.A, ill give you that guitar"! biggrin.gif

Nice review. I have just finished watching series on youtube about the recording of that album in Nashville. Great story.

Great Review, I totally agree

I am LOVING this album, and this is coming from someone who wasn't a big fan of their previous work, but my lord this is an AMAZING album, the only weak track is "He Who Spawned the Furies"

It tops Nostradamus and Death Magnetic for my Album of the Year, which says a lot because I love those albums

One of the best things ive heard, Period. Not only is it Trivium's best effort, But its just mindblowingly original in everyway, and gets better as you listen to it.

I really dislike Trivium. I don't see what people see in them. They are below average 80's thrash ripoffs. They are actually worse than modern Metallica which is pretty much impossible to achieve. biggrin.gif

Did you check out this album yet mate?

Obviously not everyone thinks they're as bad as modern metallica- i do agree thats near impossible tho unsure.gif

But this album is literally stuck in my head all day- its brilliance.

Its a new direction completly- the riffs and composing is alot different (to my ears). Heafy's voice sounds better than the previous albums and he's gone for a mix of singing and screaming- quite a cool result. Really creative solos- not at all like the up and down arpeggios and 3nps runs of the crusade.
I just really love the album- after a few listens you get alot of the album stuck in your head...and things you don't seem to like straight away completly grow on you.

It's a worth a listen that's for sure.

I will give two tracks a listen. I will get my mate to play a few for me as he owns the album.

In that case don't make Kirisute Gomen one of them- it has one of the coolest drum intros ever- but the song completly changes abruptly when it goes into the chorus. Its literally the one thing i dislike about the album (so why did they make it the first track?!?!?)

Been listening this album for awhile, and although it is a good album, I think even Crusade was better. Ascendancy is still the best though smile.gif
