Opeth are gods.

Fact.

End of story.

The last line in the last song off "Blackwater Park"

Thats probably my favourite part of any lyrics ever. Yes, I'm an Opeth fanboy biggrin.gif

Opeth is amazing indeed. I guess my favorite song would be either... uhm.. I was going to say black rose immortal, but then I come to think of nectar, the leper affinity, demon of the fall, deliverance and so on >_<
AMAZING band, really, I dont get how its possible to make every song 10min++ with probably like 20 different parts in that song and still make them ALL SO FREAKIN GOOD!

Btw, I just come to think of an opeth song that is rather heavy and got a piano intro, I think. I dont remember the name, I just remember that it is freakin awesome. I guess I could say its sort of in the style of metallica? Its some heavy riffing in it atleast. You guys know the name?

As someone who does a bit of vox, I have to say Åkerfeldt's ability on vocals as well as guitar is astounding, he has such versatility in his cleans and growl's going one minute from a tenor sounding clean to this bass-y low sound and still managing to keep pace with all that fast guitarwork thats going on, it's just nothing short of amazing.

He is truely amazing, id lean towards calling him the greatest vocalist in my opinion. with regards to your heavy song with a piano intro, i cannot remember if dirge for november is an accustic intro or a piano, ill listen to it after this post, another great heavier song is serenity painted death. My favorite Opeth song is either Masters Apprentise or Blackwater Park, although i do have a drawing up of a Patterns in the Ivy tattoo that i want to get when i have some spare money and spare time.

Robin: A fair judgement perhaps? Piano intro, just clean vocals and some heavy riffs, especially the ending riff.

Posted by: The Uncreator Jun 17 2007, 03:02 PM

That label fits more than one Opeth song though....

Anyway, Mikael Akerfeldt is a truly amazing musician, his ability to play guitar like he does and do those insane vocals, (Clean and growls) is just a feat of pure godliness.

My favourite Opeth song's probably The Funeral Portrait, I just love the intro riff.

Greatest vocalist? Hmm, not sure, I'd lean towards Karsten Jäger from Disbelief as my favourite vocalist in metal.

The Uncreator: Ofc it does, it's just what I thought of right away, but since it might be that one, it's worth a shot.

Anyways, yeah, Åkerfeldts vocals are pure ownage, he's definetly my favourite at clean vocals, and the only one who growls better (in my opinion, ofc) is Peter Tätgren, and that's only in bloodbath that he surpasses Mikael. And when you think of his insane composing skills, it's almost like he isn't human.

Posted by: The Uncreator Jun 17 2007, 03:41 PM

Miakel isnt Human.....His is Human +1.....

While this post is going on smile.gif what does everyone think about the leaving of peter and the new "Arch Enemy" addition to Opeth? im a fan of arch enemy so i think it might be good, but at the same time i really don't want opeth to change ohmy.gif

Posted by: Owen Jun 17 2007, 07:11 PM

I dont think the sound will change as long as Åkerfeldt's running the show.

Posted by: Fsgdjv Jun 18 2007, 12:02 AM

I'll miss Peters solos for sure:/ I can just hope Peter will do the only right thing, become a guitar teacher laugh.gif

Posted by: Smikey2006 Jun 18 2007, 12:54 AM

perhaps a *gasp* GMC guitar teacher biggrin.gif hahah

Posted by: The Uncreator Jun 18 2007, 06:08 PM

Frederik Akesson will do Opeth justice, he has played with them before, and he is a very versatile guitarists.

Posted by: Fsgdjv Jun 18 2007, 07:36 PM

Just outof curiosity, when has he played with Opeth? But yeah, he'll do fine I guess, as long as he'll stay away from the shredding. I'll still miss Peter though..

i cant wait till they begin touring again, that would be the most awsome concert ever. perhaps a tour with DREAM Theater now that they are both roadrunner
