I'm about to order some new strings for me LP and Acoustic.

Can I get your recommendation on what gauge to get, for my Les Paul i was planning on getting 9s - 42s ,it currently has 10s on and for the acoustic planning on getting 10s - 50s ernie ball bronze

Ps.. while browsing eBay i found Bad Boy strings, anyone ever used em, I normally buy Ernie ball or martin strings..

It depends what tunings you play in, scale length and ultimately, personal preference - I see you're moving down to 9s from 10s.

I play mostly in E standard, so have heavy bottom 10s (EB) on my LP style guitar, and regular 10s (EB) on my Ibanez w/ floyd. 10s used to feel a bit tight, but I've grown to prefer them.

Do you like your strings tighter or lose?

Maybe look into a 7-string pack something like a 9-52 and take out the 24. That way your g,b,e are still loose and then your E,a,d are still tight that when you go for Drop C that you aren't flubbing on the E.

I use D'addario 010 in my Gibson Les Paul and my Fernandes Monterrey. I find these ones good at a reasonable price.

14's???? OUCH!

Elixir Nanoweb 12's for me on acoustic as I can turn strings rusty just by looking at them.

Regular 10's on the LP.

If you order D'Addario, be careful getting them off E-Bay. Fake ones are coming out of China. The D'Addario 10's I use are only like $13 (US) for 3 packs so I buy them at my local shop. I don't think I can beat that price or convenience. Also, D'Addario's home page has a place where you can check the serial # to see if they're fake.

ordered those bad boy 10s for my crafter acoustic to try em out.. I did some research last night on gauges for les pauls and most players perfur 9s ,some even go as low as 8s ,same research also told me that jimmy page use's 8s on his LP..

But when it came to ordering i noticed a usb guitar interface for pc so i ended up ordering that along with the acoustic strings and sacrificed the LP strings for another day, as i use amplitube alot it was too good to miss!!

If your not certain on gauge, try to get more than one size pack so you can figure out what the best ones for you are. Nobody can tell you which gauge will work best for you sadly. You have to try several, and find out the old fashioned way. I settled on 9 Super Slinky packs after trying wads and wads of vendors and sizes. But every player is a bit different and some folks HATE 9 sets and HATE super slinky sets in general! So it's a personal thing you have to work through. But it's worth doing smile.gif

Todd, I also use slinkys (although "regular" 10's instead of the "super" 9's). Every time I switch to another brand, they break too easily. So it's been slinkys only for years.
