Hi there,
This post is in response to the many requests that have been done on the forum for non-playing related topics. We definitely need more video tutorials on... * Your chain of effects to get your favorite sound(s) * Detailed explanations of the features of your guitar(s) * Any music related gear * etc etc anything which you think you could cover in a cool and instructional way is relevant. An example of this is Ivan's string changing tutorial - Ivan's tutorial is also a good example of how you can structure these kind of lssons. (It struck me right now that we should have a similar one on tuning, with all the different methods there are!) Most of the topics could be done with playing illustrations (especially useful when explaining your favorite sounds) - but no need to include tabs as the purpose isn't to explain playing techniques. Let me know if you have more ideas! PS How about a guitar building video tutorial?! |

That's good ideas for topics.
I could think of a few other like: - How to find a guitar that fits you! budget, playing style, expected sound Will the extraordinary Dean look good on me even when I'm 30? Gibson or Fender? Should I get an Ibanez like everyone else? - how to find an amp that fits you (budget, style, extected sound, solid state for low maintenance and bedroom vs 100W tube amp for gigs) head + cab or combo, how many watts do I need for different purposes? DO I have to get that Switchblade that Micke keeps nagging about? (the answer to that would be yes by the way, but get a 50 watter) - How to choose a cabinet and which speakers suits better. 412 vs 410, 212 vs 210, 112 vs 110 slanted or not slanted, half stack or full stack. The question was up the other day in a thread and it's not that easy to answer. If someone has an opportunity to make A-B tests like a Gibson vs a Fender on the same amp with the same settings. Would give people an idea how they differ in sound since I belive people doesn't always know that when choosing a guitar, they are not sure what they are looking for and what to expect from it. The A-B tests can of course be tricky since expensive gear is needes, that someone has both a Les Paul and a Strat isn't impossible but that someone could test an expensive Fender tube amp vs an expensive Marshall tube amp is less likely. Perhaps it would be possible to arrange for instructors to rent gear and rent a test booth in a music store for GMC. It's a larger project for sure but musicstores god kids abusing their expensive rectifiers all day long during weekends so I dont think they would mind a litte cash for renting the stuff for a change. I'll do the guitar tuning tutorial, since I already did the restringing, so it woudl be cool to make a matched series tutorial on the similar subject. Will finish by the end of may.
Also I'll do some tutorials on my current gear setup, for example, getting the sound out of a Marshall and pedals, using a chorus, delay, wah wah, pedalboard layout tips etc.... By the end of May too! -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

I've upgraded my gear recently and I will try to explain how it works.
If someone has an opportunity to make A-B tests like a Gibson vs a Fender on the same amp with the same settings. Excellent Ivan I am looking forward to your tuning tutorial! Maybe you can start with the easiest way of tuning in the first parts and then go over to more advanced in the parts that follow. The main video could be a medley (like you string changing lesson). Cool, I'll do it right away.. just.. I don't quite understand what do you mean with easiest way of tuning and advanced tuning. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE
