My name is Mateo Barragan (Bara it's my nickname)

I played classical guitar for 3 years. I used to play music from great classical guitar composers like Francisco Tarrega, Agustin Barrios Mangore, Heitor Villa-Lobos ...and I think of myself at that time as a decent guitar player.

In my last year of school i decided to quit the conservatory ( i said i wanted to focus on my studies, but i really wanted to enjoy my last year of school hanging out with my friends tongue.gif ) so for the next 2 years i didn't take guitar seriously... but during this time is when i started to listen to jazz, blues and rock n roll, and then everything changed... I was suddenly in love with the electric guitar.

Although classical guitar is beautiful ( I still like it a lot), after hearing guitar players like Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Wes Montgomery, Scott Henderson, Eddie Van Halen, Chuck Berry I knew i had to learn how to play the electric guitar. Hearing this guitar players was a mind blowing experience for me...

So I bought my first electric guitar but I didn't know where to start... so i was lucky to find GMC, this page is really awesome!!

I'm taking guitar playing seriously again and I hope to improve my guitar skills!

Hola!!! Como estas??? Welcome to GMC! That'a a great introduction. All those Classical studies will help you a lot with your Electric Guitar playing. First of all your left hand has a good training and then your fingerpicking technique will make the hybrid picking technique (a combination of pick and fingers) much easier. smile.gif

I'm giving a technique course every Friday at 19 hs (London hour) so you are invited to join. Here you can check the lesson notes from the previous sessions.

Hey man! I feel you I got my BA in Classical music, jazz and composition and don't take me wrong I love classical music but playing it on guitar was a little too hard for me but it changed the way I think about music and I have learned some styles and tricks that I wouldn't be able to get without it
I am glad that you found what you passionate about and having fun at GMC! It's a great place to learn music and make some new friends! Welcome to GMC

Hey Mateo! Welcome man! GMC is a great place to be and you will find a lot of interesting things once you start exploring biggrin.gif and do not shy away from asking us anything you wish to know!

We also have video chat sessions with all my fellow instructors and you can have a detailed look over the v-chat schedule on the bottom of the homepage! Mine is happening each Thursday at 8 PM London time (except next week, when it's going to be on Saturday at 6 PM London time)

Otherwise, I'm also running a licks workshop - the 'thing' if you wanna learn a quick new lick each week - featuring all sorts of styles and levels of difficulty! Check it out: Cosmin's Licks Workshop

See you around mate

Cosmin

Hello Bara.. welcome to GMC smile.gif

That's so cool that you have a classical guitar background. That should help you with learning the electric because of the dexterity you've built up with your fretting hand cool.gif

Hola Bienvenido a GMC! smile.gif

I agree with Ben, it's not going to be so hard to develop a new electric guitar technique since you already know your hand shapes,

I hope you take the best out of the site
