Hi there!

I got a question about palmmuting.
I was wondering if the right hand is resting all the time on the strings or only at the time you want to mute the strings.
When I pick the string I slightly lift my palm and when I want to mute it, I put it on the string again. I was wondering if this is called palmmuting or do I have keep the hand on the string and pick the string harder?

Kind regards,
Niels

sounds like you're doing the right thing. eventually it becomes no natural and easy you won't even be able to tell when you do it.

What did you learn tonight?
while shouting so loud, you barely joyous, broken thing.
You are a voice that never sings, is what i say.
You are freezing over hell
You are bringing on that end you do so well
and you can only blame yourself, is what is say.

Palm muting is when you play a muted note... sounds like your muting with your palm tongue.gif

Palm muting sounds easy enough, but I am having more trouble with it then I thought I would. Maybe I should cut back on the caffeine.

Had a guitar hanging, just about waist high, and we are going to play these things until the day we die.

Heh its not very hard once you get it. When your playing regularly your hand sits on the bridge. When you come across palm muted notes you simply move your hand onto the strings. Then when you pick or strum regularly the notes should sound generally the same only muted. THen when the muting is over you move your hand back onto the bridge so that they ring clean again ITS THAT EASY smile.gif but like all things practice makes perfect

Palm muting is a technique that takes time just to get your hand used to ,but once you do you will you it alot.Basically i think smiley2006 explained it.You just slightly put the end of your palm on the strings just past the bridge and sadles. You dont want to put your palm to far away from the bridge or it will just kill the sound all you have to do is lay palm just past the bridge .So practice it and see the different sounds it makes as you place your palm in different places so you will find exactly were the mute sounds best. This is one of those techniques you must learn ,you cant get by really without it.Atleast for what i play i never could. biggrin.gif
