Spending time with various musicians is very important. Jumping into a group of musicians that you never played with before can be a bit stressful, but also very rewarding, cause you pickup so many interesting little things. We can all learn so much from each other when jamming together! smile.gif

Do you have fun jamming with other people? How often do you get that chance?

I get to Jam with another guitar player at least once a week, and its the high-light of my week, since I come from a family where I'm the only musician, its great to be able to talk and jam with someone who "speaks the same language" as I do. tongue.gif I really enjoy jamming with other musicians because I always learn something new, and am always challenged to push myself to better playing.

Interesting question!

I must admit it's been a while since I have not jammed with other musicians but everytime I did, I in fact learned something new.

I like to think that when joining the GMC live sessions, it is approaching a jam session. However, the commitment is not yet the same.

It is also a different experience if the folks you're jammig with are of different levels than you are. Depending on the situation, you may learn a lot or bring something different to someone else. In both cases, it is rewarding.

A thought!

JPBluestring.

PS: I learn a lot from watching the masters at GMC. But, lately, I experience great satisfaction in sharing this experience with other guitar players I know and who may benefit from you guys!

Unfortunately I hadn't gotten any chance to jam as I did a few years ago, because I focused myself on other aspects of music, such as composing and orchestrating for my bands. But every now and then I throw off a groove with one of my drummers - that's how the Smooth collab was born tongue.gif

I am trying to squeeze 2-3 hrs a week in which I jam freely over backing tracks using my voice and then trying to play the lines I just sung, using my guitar. It keeps me fresh, but since I don't play any stuff like that in the actual musical contexts in which I am involved, I tend to forget A LOT of the stuff I come up with smile.gif) frustrating, ain't it? laugh.gif The good thing is that GMC is a good place where I can imagine all sorts of musical contexts and get to apply what I come up with.

It's usually fun to jam with other people, I must confess I don't get the chance to do it often, but once in every two weeks I like to jam with somebody new, doesn't matter the type of music, just jamming and learning new stuff, it's very important.

twice in one day, once a week. Band practice for 2 hours, followed by open mic about 2 hours later. If I could I'd triple that!
