There is Cubase, which is very widely used. And Sony Acid. If you don't mind softwares that requires specific hardware, I'd recommend Pro Tools any day smile.gif

I use Reaper, but you could check out Audacity, Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase is very widely used, and Nuendo to name a few.

Cubase SX 2 works fantastically, I use it all the time, really cool. There is Ableton Live and Reason. All 3 are excellent choices!

I use MusicMaker 2008 which was very cheap €15,-- (www.Magix.com) and is good for making recording on a win desktop pc.

Free and good are Reaper and Audacity

And also free is AnvilStudio:www.AnvilStudio.com

There's also DAW called Record from Propellerhead,
it's actually an upgraded Reason, upgraded to record audio as well
since regular Reason acts like midi sequencer only.
I haven't tried it still but I heard some good things about it,
plus you get full Reason with it which means TONS of sounds etc.

You can try also Nuendo, but it has the same interface as Cubase, so, both of them are great
