Hello folks,

I'm learning THIS lesson with Gab, I'm struggling to see what he's doing with his fingers for the fourth bar (See section 2 in the video) Is there any software out there where I can download the video and play it really slow. I can't work out a good way to shuffle my fingers for this and even when Gab plays it slowly I can't quite catch it. I've tried pause repeatedly but without success.

Cheers smile.gif

Success is not obtained overnight. It comes in instalments; you get a little bit today, a little bit tomorrow until the whole package is given out. The day you procrastinate, you lose that day's success.

Hi Phil

You can grab the video with a video saver plugin for your navigator and then play it with VLC.

With VLC you can slow down the playback near to picture after pictures with sound !

While you play you'll find the speed option in the menu play / speed / select your speed up or down, several time if you need to slow much and much.

cheers

Laurent

Thanks Laurent, that worked a treat smile.gif

It would be ultra good if the speed had a slider bar in the main area but it is a great help. Thanks buddy smile.gif

Another alternative is Transcribe. https://www.seventhstring.com

I use it all the time for playing along with backing tracks. It can slow down (almost without affecting pitch), loop, change pitch (for example to practice tuned down stuff in standard tuning) and even figure out which notes are being played at particular point in time. Highly recommended. It's not free though

One thing I'd recommend doing is to prepare a new backing track by setting bar markers. Just let it run and press the 'm' key on each new bar. You will get a small marker on top. Afterwards convert some of them to section markers (right click) and maybe rename them as well.
That let's you set loop ranges for specific parts of the track very quickly. One handy shortcut is to set the transport somewhere in that section and then shift-click both section ends and you have your loop smile.gif

Ahh thanks Wyverex, Transcribe isn't really what I need, I need the video to be slowed down because I need to see how Gab is playing the fourth bar of that piece, I can't get an economical solution for my fingers and I'm struggling.

VLC is ok, it's a bit clunky to use and if you leave it for a few seconds it goes back to full speed again.

Thanks anyway wink.gif

Phil, using the GMC player just pause the video at the moment you need and take a screenshot.

Here's the G chord

Attached Image

Interestingly, the tab doesn't include the fretted B and top E notes, but they are played with the 3rd and 4th finger respectively. The 2nd finger handles the root of G on the low E string and the 2nd finger handles the B note on the A string.

Here's the D

Attached Image

The index finger moves up from the A string to tackle the F# note on the low E string. The 2nd finger moves down to catch the 2nd fret on the G string, with the 3rd finger completing the fun by handling the 3rd fret, B string. The fourth finger may look likes it's fretting a note but is just hovering freely with no job to do, enjoying the view smile.gif

Thanks for your help Ben,

I was trying to watch it slowly to see the transition between the 2nd fret A string and 2nd fret E string. It's hard to do by pausing it wink.gif I've been trying to roll my index finger from the A string to the E string but when I do that it dampens the open strings that need playing.

I've just been watching it at 1/8th speed in Movie Maker and that G chord image is part of what's been confusing me. I've had it before in TABs, throwing my fingers around the neck trying to finger three different chords only to "discover" that it's been one barre chord played differently three times, ie; strumming different strings, I've kicked myself when the penny has dropped laugh.gif

Thanks for your recent comments in REC by the way, I did send a PM wink.gif

Cheers smile.gif

Sure, no worries, mate smile.gif
But I was just wondering if you actually loaded the video file into Transcribe because it can slow down videos as well as plain audio.
