GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ New Main Page structure

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Jul 4 2007, 01:47 AM

Phew... smile.gif

As a first step to the large restructuring which we will be doing of our chaotic content: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/

This isn't a very big change but will hopefully make it easier to understand the order of the updates and to find the most recent ones.

In a couple of months the whole content will be re-organised into a much more logic structure. (With the possibility to sort by instructor, style, difficluty level etc).

I am of to sleep now - looking forward to waking up tomorrow and hear about all the bugs and broken links! biggrin.gif

yea man, i was like WTF, but it definately looks great! good job kris!

The only thing I would say is that, at the bottom you have parts of the old page, that have that kind of rounded edge whereas everything from the new stuff is more squarish. I think the rounded edges look better, personally, but I'm not sure if you can do that or not. And for some reason there's no space between the thumbnail and 'Pavel Denisjuk Solo' where there is for the others.

Posted by: FretDancer69 Jul 4 2007, 01:59 AM

another thing, the lessons are no longer classified like "In Style Of..." or "Technique Lessons", etc. like before.

Posted by: JVM Jul 4 2007, 02:00 AM

And I liked it when you could see more forum topics at once tongue.gif

yea thats true. Also, i thought that the "From The Archive" table was going to be like random, but i think it only displays the Steve Vai solo for now right?

Posted by: rokchik Jul 4 2007, 02:09 AM

I left for like an hour and a half....when I get back it's all changed!

Looking good Kris...great work as always. biggrin.gif

Random is good idea for the future - for now I will pick it manually and change it a couple of times every week.

I got an idea!

In the "from the archive" box, we could have lessons chose by users. All we would need to do is start a "favorite lesson"-thread where you specify the link to your favorite lesson, as well a paragraph about why you liked it. The user who gets his lesson chosen would then have his username on the main page too! smile.gif

Worth a try?

Really cool! Haha Kris, I LOVE that picture of you on the main page, coolest ever! biggrin.gif

Sounds like a plan.

Good Job Kris! I find the new structure more professional and I think that the next changes that you are planning would be great!

Posted by: Andrew Cockburn Jul 4 2007, 04:24 PM

Its a hit smile.gif

Posted by: Pavel Jul 4 2007, 06:19 PM

Well maybe it looks a bit strange to me because now the main page is full of text and our last design was based on pictures and some cool photos so i guess i just got used to it too much biggrin.gif

Now i just sat and watched it for 10 minutes and you know it really looks cool!

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Jul 4 2007, 06:22 PM

Awesome feedback guys! biggrin.gif blink.gif

I am beginning to like it myself... biggrin.gif

Posted by: Layzer Jul 4 2007, 07:44 PM

dont know where to post this but the bass lessons links are dead

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Jul 4 2007, 08:15 PM

Thansk Layser, this was due to the fact that we just changed the bass section to "misc lessons".

I hope they are fixed now, otherwise please notify me! smile.gif

Yeah that sounds awesome.

Also, you could add a place on the main page for GMC users to save their lesson on the main page so they can get back to the lesson when they sign in. If you find this hard to under stand go to ultimate-guitar.com and look at the bottom right of the page where users can save links to tabs (we can do it for lessons).

What do you think?
