I currently have a ts9, bb9 and yesterday borrowed my friends jd9. Let me know if anyone has any questiones but here is how I use them for shred (with the same dist. pedal or plug-in's);
TS9;
The good; I use it to get creamy or more traditional sounding solo sound. Although its famous mid-bump, the source distortion sound it boosts still preserves its character. Tonally 1 trick pony on its own but it loves switching between sources (amps/pedals...friendly with anything you throw at it). Excellent for soulful playing (reacts to how you pick), very good construction.
The bad; Output is low-ish, barely enough for extreme shred-vibe. On my guitar (bright humbuckers) with strong distortion the neck pickup on low E string on some positions can sound bridge pickup-like cause of the bass-cut. Not a tone shaper but enhancer.
JD9;
The good; Best pedal I used till now for extreme shred, think dragonforce or Todd's style of solos. The output and drive range is insane, takes the fretboard sensitivity to extreme, awesome if you like a gentle touch when shredding. For the price, I don't think one can find another pedal that can alter an amps tone to such degree. With the mid knob turned down, can sound like a boss pedal but more amp-like.
The bad; Though usable, has a harsh edge with lower gain settings as I keep returning to the ts9 for that vibe. Terrible at reflecting picking varietions, your solos will sound a bit 1 dimentional. Build quality isn't good, feels like it will last but pops badly when engaged.
BB9; Not an overdrive but a booster though it adds some dirt, can turn a single-coil pickup to humbucker-like (or add output+body to a vintage humbucker). Right between the 2 other pedals, good enough output and reflects picking dynamics. Has no bass cut and helps sound depth while the slight mid boost from drive (trasparent output with drive is all the way down) add comfort to playing.
The bad; Its more about changing the guitars sound not an amp/pedal so don't expect it to do as much for your tone like an overdrive. Build quality again isn't good (first one I bought had buzzing) but it doesn't pop so bad like the JD9.
