So i was at my buddies place and i was looking at his monitors while we were jamming and saw that his guitar was actually plugged into his computer into a program called guitar rig.. i got him to tell me a little bit about it.. basically it is a virtual guitar rig, where you can download different preamps and choose your head and cab + preamps + all your effects and really generate your own vintage tone.. and if you put it on your laptop and take your laptop with you and plug it into a modeling amp its just as good as owning a whole rack of preamps.
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/GuitarRigWin/ whats everyone think? is it worth it.. cause im definatly thinking about it -------------------- Schecter Exotic Star+ Peavey VK

Check out my lesson, it was recorded using Guitar Rig 3, and in my opinion it rules big time, I don't use anything else at home. As far as I remember you can download a demo version at their homepage so you could try it.

It's a nice software, didn't used GR3 (must try, thanks for advice Marcus), but GR2 wasn't very good for me. It does have a lot of options, many simulations, the sound was too thin almost on every one.
So I would recommend trying this GR3 newest version. As Marcus said it is a good software and the newer must be better than the old one. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

Its really no different form a Pod - in the case of the pod, the laptop hardware is replaced by the hardware of the pos itslef - its all software these days!
I think GR3 is great, and comparable to the pod (which also has a software plugin called Gearbox) - they are both great if you like software modelers. -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

If you buy line6 toneport device, it comes with a similar simulations software(gearbox).I understand that with guitar rig 3 you get some kind of interface to plug your guitar in..If you don't get that version you will need some kind of interface to get the good signal into your PC..
I tried guitar rig 2 , I'm sure guitar rig 3 is much better software...Would like to hear from someone who can compare it to gearbox software (is it worth it).. -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net

What I like about Guitar Rig is that it's a combination of hardware and software, read about it and you'll love the

have to say, i was very suprised by it... and to me it sounds better than a pod... - would never use it on a serious studio album though - amps are more real
