I'm building a guitar right now, and I just started on the neck, got it all cut out and other stuff like that. But, do I have to put a truss rod in the neck?

Well, I've never attempted a guitar build but I would think you would need to. As the wood ages and warps, I can't see how you could get a propper set-up without it. The neck would be able to "bow" as much as it wants.

I'm interested to hear what others have to say. Good luck on your project.

You should post some pictures! And I agree that you would needa trussrod or you'll be playing a bannana with strings! laugh.gif

This article reccomends you do use a truss rod..

Sadly it didn't say how to install it.

Thanks! I was just wondering, because I just ordered my fretboard, and I forgot about the rod. I'll try to order on tonight, and install it as soon as possible. I'll post pics in less than an hour!

wow, good luck, that's an interesting project for sure. Truss rod goes inside, so either you must make a cavity for it, or buy a premade one, or make larger cavity and then insert a truss rod and over it some other wood, like rosewood. I don't know what type of neck you are building...

i think its better to order one than to build it cause after installing you will see some
notes out of tune specially in frets 12 and up

Truss rod is needed really to keep a more stable guitar. Cool looking neck by the way.

Trussrod is needed for sure. Get one that fits the length of your scale. There are also ones that needs a sloped routed canal others go into a straight canal.
