On Stage, Where Do You Stand?

I was thinking about this and I'm wondering if anyone else has a similar preference. When I'm playing on stage, or even in practice, I always stand to the immediate left of the drummer. I don't know why, but I've always preferred that spot and it has become sort of a "natural" place for me when I'm jammin. It's been that way for 20 years it seems.

Out of curiosity, does anyone else have a preferred spot?

Left of the lead singer - kind of separated me form the bassist who was on the right so we wouldn't argue as much laugh.gif

Kind of as a related question....

Most rock-ish bands I've ever seen have the lead guitar player to the drummer's left if he's not the lead vocalist, and the bass player on the right. The'll move around during the performance, but "home base" (pedals and their monitor) are usually in that configuration. Even Angus tends to home in on that side of the stage.

Any good reason for that or is it just something that happens?

In four words

ALL OVER THE PLACE or just in one spot if i get stage fright but if i feel really comfortable with the crowd and I know they like it I like to move around almost like Slash or Herman Li

I don't know exactly, but in my case, I am also a drummer and for some reason I like to be around where the snare and hi-hat are. But I noticed that same thing. You mentioned Angus - I notice it with Van Halen, Stones and others too. It is curious.

Hmm,
I seem to be the odd man out. I need to be on the right side playing out or at practice.
Maybe it's because I am left handed laugh.gif

Damn it, I knew I shoulda learned to play left handed. I'm all backwards now.... laugh.gif

I dunno...

It depends on stage or how I feel at the moment. If it's a song I'm not too terribly comfortable with...and need to concentrate on just playing, I will stand to the drummer's left, where the snare and hi-hats are, so I can rely on tempo and count if I get lost.

If I am totally comfortable...I stand on the drummer's right, and just shred away, usually with my back on the lead singer, lmao. I've done it before, great stage appreciation from the crowd too...tongue.gif \m/

They thought it rocked. Too much rock for one hand I say!

\mmmmm/
