hey gmc. Ive noticed that virtually everyone here and in the world plays powerchords with their pinky instead of the ring finger. Is there something importing technique wise or sumthing that im missing here? Is it easier? smile.gif

nope, its because they feel more comfortable with using their pinky. It doesnt really matter if you're using your ring finger or pinky, as long as you feel comfortable with it.

Whaaaat? Depends a lot on what comes after the chord really... If the next utilizes larger stredges I prefer using the index and ring finger for the first chords... you'll see in the video.

Depends on the kind of power chords you're talking about also I geuss...

Anyways... I do a little of everything I geuss... varied it a bit here:

I don't think it really matters, just do what's most comfortable for you. smile.gif
I use both, I use the 1st and 3rd finger when I want to add little embellishments with the pinky or middle finger.

You can use even index and middle finger for just straight 5th interval.
And with that grip you immediately have more space to go with
your ring and middle fingers,to add some cool extra notes. wink.gif

depends on what comes afterwards. Let's say that you play a rock 'n roll rythm,

7---9---10--9
5-5-5-5-5-5-5

then you'd never play the starting powerchord with your pinky.

Let's say that you play melodic metal with trad japanese influences.

9-----9- -9----9-- -7-- 7---7-6
7-777--7-7-77-5-555-5-5---4-4 etc.

now you'd most certainly play the powerchords with your index and pinky or even middle and pinky, because you have to move the root downwards while the pinky stays.

Also, you can use your pinky (I do tongue.gif ) but if you're going to switch to a three string powerchord you'll need to switch your pinky to another string And put your ringfinger down. If you do the power chord with the ring, and then play a three-string powerchord, you just need to put your pinky down.

Its nothing wrong with it , everybody plays it how its comfortable to them..Of course you will in future think of freeing up some fingers for other stuff on top too, so you may change fingering..

It is not that important, it really depends what you are playing at the moment. If your playing around that powerchord involves some moves that require pinky free for example you can play it without it, if it's easier to grasp the notes that way. I use the pinky, and sometimes only ring finger, but rarely because I find the ring+pinky give more better and even sound.
