Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Jazz Swing Lead Lesson by Muris Varajic

Here's my take of this fabulous lesson. I take a lot of pleasure to learn it. I've made the preset by myself, there's maybe a bit much reverb in my tone :D

Hi Alex.

You do quite a good job here.. there may be a bit too much reverb but that's ok, let's focus on your playing.

-Timing: This is probably the main thing that stands out. There are a few occasions in this lesson where you need to get a triplet feel. For example, at 0:33 you're playing a very straight sounding rhythm which isn't right. Imagine yourself counting 1,2,3 1,2,3 over and over along to the backing.

Imagine that one note lasts for the count of 1 & 2 and then the second note lasts only for the duration of the count of 3. That's the swing sound that Muris has got in this lesson. Try that and see if it helps.

Other than that there's a few places where the notes sound weaker in volume and your fingers don't always perform sliding position shifts with much strength. So focus on getting that timing right and making the overall note velocity sound more consistent.

Good work!

Hey there! First of all. Somehow your playing get's lost somewhere under the backing and too much of reverb. I would go for much less reverb in the mix. Even if it's quite hard to capture I still think your tone is quite nice for the lesson type you choose. You only need to figure out best reverb settings and you need to improve your control over the softest notes from the ones you play - they go belyond the limit of volume so we actually hear almost only stroke of the pick and a little fret buzz. Playing very soft but acurate at the same time is not an easy task. Make some tweaking to your guitar toen in the mix and try to practice those very silent notes smile.gif
