Ok it's time for a new guitar. As you know(or not) I own a Fender mexican standard with texas specials. This are my options:

If I sell the strat

Fender American Standard Telecaster

Fender American Special Telecaster

I know this a different style of guitar but I really like it

Gibson Les Paul Studio (the $800 one)

If I don't sell the strat

Fender Standard telecaster

So , what do you think guys?

I don't understand the concept of, "sell," when it comes to guitars. And, I'd buy all three. Then there is no agonizing over the decision. wink.gif

Keep the strat, buy the Les Paul, so you have two great guitars for many different styles.

I had a mexi with the same pups mate and i sold it to upgrade to a better strat, really im sorry i did as it just had "that" sound and feel which the new one hasnt got, despite it costing five times the price, weird huh?
If youre happy with your strat just keep hold of it and add something else, the tele or the LP will be great choices but dont dismiss the cheaper fenders, they make some great guitars.

I'd also go for the Les Paul (yeah, I know, big surprise smile.gif ). If you get that one and keep the Strat then you have two great guitars that cover a wide range of sounds.

Save up and get a Les Paul Standard

Then you have the holy trilogy!!!

***edit***

Just had a thought get a telecaster 72 deluxe and have your les paul and tele in one, and be a little different...

Hmmm. Why do you want to switch from strat to tele or LP?

You could sell the mex strat and get an american strat smile.gif

thanks a lot for your comments guys.

I'm going to keep the strat and i'm going to save this whole month to buy either the Tele special or the Les paul , if I don't reach the budget I'll go for the mex tele , and maybe I'll change the bridge pup for a humbucker.

I guess at some point I'll be having both Gibson and fender.

I really apreciate your suggestions.

I am not convinced that the Ebony that they offer at that price new has a maple top. Nothing wrong with that if so, I have one of the mahogany top LP"s with natural finish and like it, but it is quite different in sound as compared to the maple top LP's. They also weigh a lot less.

I'm not an LP expert , but I agree with you. I tried one yesterday and it weigh less than my strat it didn't felt like an LP, it has an awesome tone tho.

It's never late to live by that rule, I have already sold 3 guitars a peavy predator , a fender strat standard and a Ibanez SA160qm , and I only regret about the strat, it was a Standard 91(by that time there were no mex) , I bought new in 94 , that was strange, I didn't new that it was a 91 until I sold it. So I guess 12 years after I can learn the lesson and don't sell the actual strat. wink.gif

Don't sell the Strat, it's always proves as a useful guitar. On the other hand, getting Tele is a bit strange decision. They are good, but Strat covers a lot of it's grounds. I think much better solution is to get the Gibson.

I agree with all above. If it was me, I would DEFINITELY keep the strat no matter what. I too would like a Les Paul...but would never sell my strat to get one!
