I'm struggling a bit with "feeling" this backing track. It doesn't really speak much to me, but maybe I'll try something on it anyway.

It would be awesome to have you in this one! I think the nice trick to do here would be to try singing and then transcribing the melody on the guitar. Backing track itself feels a bit open and doesn't impose any specific melodies etc to take which can make it feel just like you described as it is more of a blank canvas to paint on. I do think you should be able to fit anything from slow and bluesy to full on shred.
