GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Gnx4 Drumpatterns + Other gear

Does anyone know how flexile the GNX4 is for making songs? Can the drum patterns change time sequence within a song, say from 4/4 into 7/8?

I'm looking for ways to break lose from the computer a bit, sure it's flexible and all but I think I'd rather have just a few pieces of hardware to go.
Any suggestions on flexible stuff, small mixer, drummachine, portable studio etc. Name drop all you want but keep things on the inexpensive side please wink.gif

And to add a few things I could think of in my setup
- GNX4 as a total recording studio (may take drums from EZdrummer to load into GNX4)

Pre amp
- ENGL 530 or H&K Tubeman

Mixer
Just a small simple cheap from Behringer

I have had a GNX4 for about 3 years or more. I love it for headphone practice. dont care for the tones through an amp but I live in an apartment and sometimes I like to practice latenite so headphones are my best option to keep my neighbors from hating me.
Dont get me wrong..it sounds ok plugged into an amp especially at lower volumes, but its just not quite the same. It does have EQ wich helps alot and it would probably kick butt if you have a PA or keyboard amp but I only have Marshals and Crate Tube amps. I think it is the modeling aspect of the pedal that meshes wrong with a guitar amp.
I love the loop station, good drum tracks (it has about 40 various drum sequences to jam with. you can load mp3s from your computer into it to jam along with.
This pedal is my best practise tool I have ever owned.
You will want a CF memory card, mine is 2gb for about 40 bucks but it allows me 6 1/2 hours of recording with 99 patches to put your loops.
It's built sturdy enough for me, no problems after 3+ years.
I would buy another if this one crapped out.
It comes with recording software that is really user freindly and it sounds terrifec thru a sound card, very full stereo sound and I have made a few really good CDs with it.

You cannot change time signature in the middle of drum patterns.

If you practice alot alone then you should look into the GNX4

Thanks for the great input! I would mostly use it for practice and recording songs, that why the GNX4 strikes me as such a good tool for that for it's possibilities to record onto it. And what you say about uploading mp3's to it comes very handy, I could make a drumtrack with EZdrummer for those time signature switches and upload as an mp3 into the GNX4

What worries me a bit is that Digitech, at least I've read it somewhere, is discontinuing the GNX series and are coming with comething completely new. ...probably the day after I get my GNX4 laugh.gif So the question is if I shouldn't wait a little bit and see what's coming.
