Hello guys! As some of you know, I had many electricity issues in the building where I moved this year. It's a new building that has many electricity bad decisions and now they are fixing all the error that they did. That's the reason why I don't have eletricity there today, and maybe tomorrow.
I decided to go to a public workspace called "Urban Station" which is like a public office where you can work in a place specially designed for that. I couldn't bring my guitar but I can do all the pc work that I need to do. I can say that I'm very comfortable here and the only thing that I miss is my guitar.
Here is a promo video:
This gave me the curiosity to know how you workspace is.. how does it look? Is it at your home? Are you comfortable there?

I moved to a new place to get a bigger workspace, then I added more gear and it's getting cramped again!!

Gabe, in Bucharest there is a similar place, called The HUB in which small companies and entrepreneurs that can't yet afford an office, can go and work. I for one have enough space for everything in my flat. I have an office room, in which I sit when doing the computer work and a studio dedicated room, in which I work on music related stuff.

Two quick photos:
This is facing forward at a slight angle and shows 2 of the hardware racks that are inset at an angle in our console so they present as low a profile as possible to the ATC 3 way monitors. The top of the rack is actually below the monitors but the camera angle makes it look like it's obscuring the mid range driver a little.
This is from the side and shows the computer monitor which is against a side wall and out of line with the ATCs. You can also make out that there are 4 racks of hardware on the console (there's 2 more under it) and an spl meter in front of one.

I'm jealous of all those work spaces, my music area feels more like a storage closet. It needs a bit of a make over.

This is my music room. It's not yet finished because It must be painted and soundproof. I have not found a viable solution for vibrations made by drums. I stay on the 4th floor and my neighbours are not very happy And of course I need money to make all this changes

Ah, well my mom and dad built the house with the attic having a studio designed - the plan was for them to create the structure and I would take it from that point on - I'm a bit behind schedule with soundproofing it tho

Yes, it's entire room with this light. But now I removed half of it (all it will be change) because I want to replace it with another tube light. I saw a tube with a switch for 3 light colors: red, blue and green. So, you can pick a different colour for every day

If we could rehearse each day in a hall that big - there would be no difference between the rehearsal and the gig! I remember that my first rehearsals with Days of Confusion took place in a big club in which we also performed several times (it belonged to our former manager back then) and it felt like home when we had gigs, because we were really used to the environment and the sound, especially. Not to mention that we were also working on the light show at the rehearsals as well
Posted by: klasaine Oct 17 2013, 05:10 PM
Yes, it would be really nice to rehearse in that room every day (Lincoln Theater in D.C.) It was an afternoon sound check for a gig that night. I was just waiting for the crew to run power to that side of the stage.

Ha, ha! I didn't even think of the 'distraction' factor. I've just been lazy about setting up a new recording space (especially since I don't actually like to be the recordist) since we moved here. I definitely need to do it now that I have a dedicated space. Thankfully all my muso friends have small studios ... and they owe me favors

yeah, having the possibility of recording is very useful for practice and also for composing. But, as Cosmin said, try to avoid things that can give you distractions if you want to make your training time effective.
Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Oct 25 2013, 09:26 AM
Heh, I think Ken knows a lot about distraction factors enough to be able to stay away from them, But, as a suggestion to everyone. It's amazing to be able to focus on ONE thing at a time. I try to keep my activities done in dedicated places, so that I may be as productive as possible:
Non music or music business related work - in the office Music - studio Pumping iron - in the gym Sword practice - in the garden or dojo
I know it may sound a bit 'you don't say, cap'n Obvious' but it seems important to me not to mix things up, especially if you have the possibility to dedicate spaces to each one. Avoiding sources of distraction is always a good practice in itself Even if I have a wireless connection set up in the whole house, I only use the internet when I am in the office.

Gabe - many people think of Dracula's castle as being THAT castle - he rarely stayed there, trust me But there is another which is actually considered as being in the top three most haunted places in the whole world - I think I mentioned it once in the forum about 2 years ago or so.. It's called Cetatea Poienari and it has been built by the legendary Negru Voda - a quasi mythical ruler of the southern part of our country that lived somewhere around the 12th or 13th century. The castle was built on top of a huge cliff that rises 1500 steps in the Carpathian mountains in the Arges region. It can be visited today, if you are fit to climb 1500 stairs
The story goes like this - Dracula (Vlad Tepes that is ) took the castle when it was already a ruin about 150 years after Negru Voda's rule and transformed it into a mighty fortress that was built with the cost of a lot of lives - people that worked until they fell off the cliff and their ghosts are said to be there still... Scary innit?

Very scary! I searched that name and this is what appeared:
but I'm a bit confused about this... Negru Voda built both castles or Cetatea Poienari and Dracula's castle are the same one?

No no The one in the picture is Poienari Castle
The so called Dracula's Castle is called Bran Castle and it was built in 1377 by a branch of the german people in Romania - they are two different castles

Oohhhhh Hehe, that place It's further in the north near the city of Cluj. I live in Bucharest which is in the south. But that place is among the weirdest internationally recognized places indeed! I want to visit, but I have a friend that went there with his girl and more friends. At one point, he went in and wandered around in the forest for about half an hour. When he came out - his friends were all over the place looking for him and they were really worried because he was missing for... half a day Yes, it's THAT kind of place ..
