Playing "Neo Soul" E.G. Instagram Guitar (AKA sounding like the band POLYPHIA). It's not as hard as one might think. Here is a quick and dirty breakdown of "HOW TO" using some basic techniques that combine together to create this style. It's developed really quickly on instagram and become it's own "thing" to the point that there are wads of these guys around now. It's not a bad thing IMHO as it is adding a new dimension to what is now loosely called "shredding". Shredding used to just mean playing fast, now it's expanded a bit which I think is positive.

This is more of a general guide just to get folks familiar with the techniques behind what they are hearing. Mateus is a killer player to be sure! The guys from POLYPHIA are pretty good too. I did find that when these style of players share the stage with more traditional players and a full backing track, the subtle nature of the playing can get lost. There was a vid of the Ibanez NAMM JAM with several guys like SATCH and the guys from POLYPHIA. This style of play does best with a bit more minimal backing as it's the subtle vibe that gives it panache.
